Has anyone successfully washed their BR Sloans at home - I dribbled coffee all over my turquoise pair at work this morning (faulty travel mug lid installation)? I'm afraid if I dry clean them the spot won't come out and they really should be washable based on the fiber content!! That's the chance of shrinkage if I line dry them?

I do wash mine in cold water, gentle cycle and hang dry. The have worked out fine. The may have shrunk a tiny bit in length but I am not sure. I hate the chemicals used in dry cleaning and there are no green cleaners near me so I wash everything.

I hand wash my 'dry clean only' items and they have turned out just fine. Just be gentle and don't wring them out - place it on a towel and roll up to soak up excess water. Good luck!

I washed mine and I wish I hadn't. They shrunk a bit all over plus they got a sheen from ironing. Overall they are now ruined for me.
I did not use special care in washing other than to wash in cold water and hang to dry.

ok - well I treated the coffee stain and am going to hand wash and hang to dry. I'm nervous after Tina's comment - but they're not tight to begin with and they're already ankle pants, right....I've got an old pairs of pant stretchers from my gran ( the original crazy laundry lady )- maybe I'll insert those so they don't lose their shape as they dry. I'll keep you posted.....

Wishing you luck. I always used to pretreat stains before dry cleaning, but the people at the dry cleaners told me not to. I'm not convinced.

I want pants stretchers now!

I'm glad to learn about stretchers, since I washed a pair of BR Martins on the hand-wash/cold cycle and they still shrunk when I lined dried them, and was wondering about my new BR sloans.

I remember when my Mom got pant stretchers for my Dad's work pants. Too bad she didn't have shirt stretchers too.

I was wearing a pair of BR sloan fit pants (not the ankle pant style, but wide legged) and when I left work in the torrential rain we had here there was so much water in our parking lot that the bottom 5 or 6 inches of my pants were soaked! I have just been letting them air dry and will take them to the dry cleaners this weekend. Hopefully they are ok.

Well?? Do we have a verdict? Do I need to buy some pant stretchers? BTW, I'm 50 and have never heard of pant stretchers. Would so love to spare some pants from the dry cleaners though, so do let us know.

hey everyone - here is the verdict!! - pants survived - I think by virtue of the stretchers - the link to the stretchers is in one of my posts above. They are about 1/2 - 3/4" shorter (that may be from a bit closer fit)- and fit a bit slimmer after washing - not dissimilar to when they arrive fresh from the cleaners. they did require pressing and I used a pressing cloth (old split apart pillowcase) to prevent iron "shine" - I think they may have shrunk a bit but they are definitely not shrunk so much as to be unwearable. The stain did come out - YAY

But they required a significant amount of TLC - hand wash - dry in the stretchers - and then ironing!! SO would I wash them again? I'm undecided at this point. I usually run my other Sloans thru the dryer with Dryell a couple times before I actually send them to the cleaners. That is quick and easy - doesn't have the horrible chemical dry cleaning footprint, etc. I'm looking for a green cleaner closer to my office so it doesn't have to be such a chore to get to the dry cleaners!!

Good Luck everyone - I really felt like I was channeling my inner Crazy Laundry on this one!!

And to all of you who had never heard of pant stretchers - I'm assuming my Grama was just much older than yours!! - That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! LOL
