Washed once, Gap tee demoted to gear

Sigh, at least it was on sale. Washed a brand new Gap essential vneck one time and the banding around the neckline has twisted into a misshapen mess. Not going to wear it under a denim jacket like I planned, or anything other than my overalls for dirty work. I could take it back, I guess, if Gap weren't 150 miles from here (I only get to the city every few weeks). IIt's still nicer than my other gear tees.

The bummer is that I have some older Gap tees with a bit of lycra that have held up well. At least now I know it's not my go-to basic. Glad I didn't buy a bunch more on sale yesterday like I intended.

Oh thanks for this timely post. I was planning on an online purchase and had these ts in the basket. Very sorry to hear about this. Is there a chance you could iron the banding flat?

With t-shirts, I'm finding that if I really love them, I'm washing in a mesh bag, and then hanging to dry. I'm starting to view my dryer very suspiciously! For example, I bought an expensive J Crew t-shirt that I will be washing in a bag and hanging to dry. I even bought some cheap Old Navy graphic t-shirts that I like enough to launder in this way.

That said, I think GAP essential t-shirts would be the perfect candidates for wash AND dry. That is indeed a bummer. I like the suggestion for trying their customer service. Can't hurt!

I have three of these and have never had problems with them -- all new in the past year. I wonder if you got a flawed one? See if they will replace it!

Ugggg. That is a bummer. Let us know what customer service says. I haven't had very good luck with Gap's customer service when it comes to laundered and ruined items. They've fought with me each time. I then swear off buying from the Gap for-evah but wind up caving again within a month or so. *sigh*

I barely did my first return ever this week already! I'm going to let this go and use it as a reason to retire some gear tees that need to go. DH will be thrilled, and that's a bargain at $13. Ironing tees isn't in the cards around here! What I really learned is that I like the bit of Lycra in the old ones from Gap and I should look for (and pay for) it elsewhere. I did survey the forum before that shop so maybe someone else can profit too from my fairly cheap lesson-don't settle. Hope it sticks with me.

That kinda sounds like it got caught on the dryer. I hang dry these days because my complex's dryers eat clothing. It gets stuck between the frame and the drum, getting all twisty and pulled out of shape.

I've had good luck with Gap tees - I don't really dry them though - only for maybe 10 mins. on delicate to get them warm and then I hang them.

I hate this! It's happened to a Michael Kors cowl neck I had and also a UO rayon layer tee. It's one thing to have happen over a course of time, but on the first wash it's a total drag.
I dry on medium low most the time and 99% of my things are fine, but some knits just don't cut it. ARGH.

I have been kind of disappointed with the quality of Gap basics lately. I love their socks and underwear (the fit and style) but the most recent batch has been so flimsy and getting holes really quickly. I think the quality of their fabric has declined a lot lately.

I'd get in touch with Customer Service. I bought several of the favorite v-neck tees a couple of months ago and they've been great. I think you may have gotten a lemon.

I did get one of their boyfriend cardigans that feel's great but pills like mad!
