Warm weather wardrobe, what's missing?

Warm weather is finally arriving! All my knitwear have been washed and stored together with the cold weather items, to give space for the pieces for the warm weather.

I took a picture of my warm weather wardrobe as I find it helpful to see the overall colour palette and direction.

For fellow number crunching lovers, my warm weather wardrobe consists of:
1 black wool suit (you never know...)
1 navy cotton blazer
3 jumpsuits: black linen, denim and a navy silk option
3 dresses: black and white in silk, grey in linen, multi in viscose
4 long sleeves blouses: navy silk, cotton stripy, 2 white blouses
4 short sleeves blouses: 2 black and 2 white
1 sleeveless top in blue
1 black linen trousers
1 pink chino
1 navy chino
2 jeans (denim and black)
1 dotty skirt (used once)
plus the 4 casual top and 4 breton tops that I always keep

For the warm weather, so far this year I added a white romantic blouse, pink chino and grey linen dress.

I have noticed that the skirt is not used much and think that this is due to the fact that the size of the dots is bothering me, I am keeping it for now until I change size and will then replace it with something else.

I was planning a top and skirt combo but I don't think it's the right time for this.

Still, something is amiss and I am not sure what it can be! Any suggestions? If I wouldn't ask for guidance and your wisdom, I think I would be looking for more tops for Zoom meetings but I am not sure if they would add more versatility to the wardrobe.

It is a bit hard to say if anything is missing just looking at the list, without what is for work/casual occasions, what goes with what etc. So questions for you:
- you mentioned you don't wear the skirt much because of the size of the pattern. Would you wear a different skirt more?
- do you need/wear shorts/cropped pants?
- for every bottom, do you have enough tops that go with it? ( I personally like at least three)?
- do you need some kind of a thin/lightweight casual jacket for your climate (e.g. a denim jacket)?
- have you considered white jeans?
-what is your footwear situation?

I would probably have an outfit making session to see if you can put enough different ones together or if you identify some holes. Also, think about the usual occasions/situations in the summer and see if you have everything covered.

In addition to the dotty skirt, I also have a wrap skirt which has become too big. I think the material, cut and length of the current skirt is not particularly attractive to me.

I don't wear shorts or cropped pants, I think it's a cultural thing and I don't have a particular interested in them.

For every bottom I have ca 8 tops (in short and long sleeves) which work for them.

Denim jacket is already in my wardrobe but seldom used due the weather here.

White jeans... that's an interesting point! I didn't think of them and could be a good extension to the wardrobe! My only hesitation is due to my pear shape body - it may be worth a try..

Footwear is ok, I have some flat sandals, mules and metallic pumps that work well for the weather. The white sandals are preloved and are a bit of a flop - may decide to keep them for indoors.

Based on your answers, since you don't wear shorts/cropped pants, I'd say some more skirts/dresses would be in order, and perhaps some cute sandals to go with them. Also perhaps a lightweight cropped cardigan if it gets chilly in the evening? It sounds that you are well covered with tops for existing bottoms.

White jeans are lots of fun, and Angie is their biggest advocate, but you have to feel comfortable in them. I think they can be worn properly for every body type.

At first I had the same questions as Tanya. Do you need at least one light weight topper? ( lighter weight than denim, like a kimono jacket or a big linen shirt that can be worn as a jacket).
Do you have a sun hat?

thanks Tanya for the suggestions! I'll have a look for some light jeans. Maybe a cotton dress could be a worthy addition.

Rachylou, thanks! I also thought that maybe I need another sleeveless top but actually one is enough around here (and I'm always cold!). I'd need to reconsider this if I move to a warmer climate.

Joy, great suggestion! Mr Minu must have had the same idea as he gifted me a light cotton jumper which I should receive this week. Hopefully I can use it as a topper for cold evenings.

Nice, clearly defined palette with good variation and patterns within it. If you don’t like anything about the dotty skirt, why are you keeping it out? Will it ever come back into favor, after some time in the deep freeze/long-term storage, or are you done with it forever? Congrats on the weight loss that made a wrap sort too small! Nice range of shoes. Looking forward to your WIWs.

Reading your list and peeking into your closet, it looks like you have 3 main neutral colors: white, black and navy. You have accent colors in blues, greens, and maybe pink. You could add more pink and maybe red. I think you could use another pair of comfortable outdoor sandals, maybe in white or pink.

Perhaps a white or light blazer or topper. I noticed that that end of your beautifully organized wardrobe is a bit dark.

Shevia, thanks!!! I think you nailed it, the wardrobe is currently still too dark. I'll keep my eyes open for a light blazer.
I wonder if linen or a linen mix would help!

Outlining what you are likely to do over the next few months and what specific outfits you would wear may help determine your wardrobe holes. I know for me, I like lots of variety. The 3x10 challenge is interesting because I know that there are some pieces that I will not like wearing as often as 3 times in one month. Other items, such as bags, shoes and jeans, I will happily wear more than 10 times per month. If you work out which pieces are doing the heavy lifting in your wardrobe, then it is easier to identify whether you want to add another piece that has a similar function or even duplicate that workhorse piece.

I was thinking a little more variation in colour. Blush would be a nice addition. Or more light blue (aqua, turquoise, sapphire). Or mint if you don’t mind going a little green. All summery colours that look great with white and navy blue.

Well, I find linen sweaters and lightweight cardigans are very useful for cooler days. I also like short sleeve cotton or silk sweaters, they work with every type of bottoms and a dressier alternative to t-shirts.

I'm with Bijou: "If you work out which pieces are doing the heavy lifting in your wardrobe, then it is easier to identify whether you want to add another piece that has a similar function or even duplicate that workhorse piece." I would even go so far as to suggest you wait a bit and see what you're actually missing when the weather warms up, or where there are laundry bottlenecks.
Unless it's plain boredom / the need to refresh. In that case you can keep your eyes peeled for a wildcard piece that really speaks to you, preferably in the 'often worn' category (I'm not sure what that is for you: dresses, long/short-sleeved tops, flat shoes ...). Or make a little moodboard and see if there's a type of outfit you're currently drawn to that you could create by adding only one or two pieces.

I agree with Liesbeth and would hang on until the warm weather is actually here and then it will be more clear and practical as to what is missing. I like what I see in your wardrobe.

Bijou, thanks! Very wise suggestion, I will try to think what activities are due this summer - it's still challenging to make plans with the pandemic but the 3x10 execise could be helpful to identify some weak areas.

Brooklyn, thanks! Blush is indeed a colour that I am trying to add this year. Old habits are hard to get ridd off.

Liesbeth, thanks! I don't have high hopes for a hot summer here but you are right that bottlenecks in the laundry can indeed highlight what is missing... i will try to do a moodboard with the styleapp.

I'm with Star. Road test what you have to assess possible wardrobe holes. Some skirt replacements, perhaps? And since you're in Britain, a good amount of Summer toppers is welcome
