I vote yellow. It seems distinctly casual, right for the current season, and the color will have a high happiness factor for you.

The blue seems like a colder season piece bc of the fur trim. If you wanted to get it, maybe it could replace one of your long puffers?

Have you checked out the brand Lole? They have some wonderful coats and jackets to choose from.
I will confess to having a love of coats and jackets. During transition weather that leans colder and windy my favourite is an old mid thigh coat from Calvin Klein. I purchased it at The Bay. One of the features that I love is that is has a stretch fabric on the inside of the sleeve. I didn’t look for that but it is great for many activities as a result.

I have ordered all 3 jackets and they all arrived. Yellow Boden and Beige Tom Tailor are going back. I really didn’t like yellow in Boden jacket - it was dark, muted and golden, not bright cheerful yellow that I like. Tom Tailor jacket was more difficult to decide about. It is nice jacket, but very lightweight jacket - not sure that I have a weather for it. It is lighter than trench coat, and I still need a trench coat weight jacket. We usually go from 15C to 25C overnight at this time of year.
Only jacket that I am still considering is this navy Barbour, thanks to annagybe for recommending the brand. It is waterproof and somewhat heavier than trench coat, but lighter then puffer. Maybe casual version of wool coat? I think I will have a long season for this type of jacket - October, November, March and April and probably even on warmer winter days too. Fur can be removed so it can look less wintery. But we are coming to the end of the wearing season. And it is on expensive side, so I need to be sure. What do you think - keep or return?

I think it looks great-but do You love it?

I liked that one when you first posted it, and it fits you well. But does it overlap some of your winterwear? Does it take care of the hole you needed to fill?

suntiger - I am not sure, that is why I am asking. Not sure that I can really love casual practical jacket.
FashInter - that is the whole point that I don’t have any casual jackets. Yes, I can go walking through woods in my wool coat that I wear to work, but is this really overlap?

I think this looks great on you and sounds like it would fill a hole. At this time of year I'd be tempted to remove the fur and you said that is an option. I say keep.

So what sort of jacket would you love?
There is no rule that you can't wear a dressier jacket, or anything else, for any occasion

Anchie, I'm going to be a spanner. As well and good as the navy jacket looks and fits - (I know the faux fur can be removed) - it does not look like a happy Spring coat that suits your colour-rich style. Maybe I need to see it without the fur?

Here it is without the fur. Verdict?

Just showed it to my DD and she said : “oh, it’s good, but I am surprised that it is not yellow or red” LOL

If you’re not thrilled with it, I think you should keep looking. I like navy, though.

Thank you. MUCH better without the fur trim and with the brights

(I know what you mean about the Boden yellow this season. Too mustard for us. Earthy and not acidic).

I want to get this for the same weather conditions. Navy, but very crisp and the white stitching makes it look Spring-y to my eye:

Angie - this Hobbs Saskia version is gorgeous, I haven’t seen it yet. I wear my Saskia a lot, both to work and on weekends but wanted something a notch more casual. But maybe I should not force it if I don’t feel it.

Go with yellow or red- much happier

I’m with your daughter on the red. This doesn’t overlap with the wool coats, but with the puffers?

Well, I love it.
1. It is shorter, so fills a hole (can wear it to movie theatre/restaurants without dragging on the ground! As a long coat wearer myself)
2. It is more casual. Good for a walk in the woods. But still dressy enough for city pursuits, partly because of the darker colour.
3. The colour: sure, it isn't a statement piece. But presumably you will be wearing it overtop of statement pieces. This colour isn't showy but will go with everything else in your wardrobe. Since for now this will be your only item in this category, I think that makes it more useful. Opportunity to go out, grab the coat; don't have to think about changing what is under it.
4. Navy is a spring colour. The end.

Anchie, FWIW, we’ve just come back from Europe, and Seattle has the same weather. Spring can be chilly, but I don’t want to wear a heavy wool coat. I wore my old Spring trench A LOT! With matching scarf and bag. All wrapped up, or could peel off the layers. With my Papa last week:

Fashintern - This jacket is lighter then puffer, it is more cold spring then deep winter.
suntiger - color may make a difference in how I feel about it
L’Abelle - I completely agree with you on all the points. If I am being strictly practical I would keep it without a doubt. But I am not excited about it, would probably feel the same if I have to buy ski suit.
Angie - I am leaning towards returning and just keep wearing my trench coats. You look great in yours, love the color combo. Was it another surprise from Greg

Anchie I feel it’s not you. However I do have myself the occasional practical thing I don’t love, but they are all older. Nowadays I try to buy practical AND cute. Eg I need some gumboots ( Wellington boots) and I am thinking of floral ones
Maybe you could wait for love?

Jenni NZ, there are so many cute patterns on those boots these days (plaid, ladybugs, big and little flowers) that every time i see them, i wish I needed them! I’m trying to put your philosophy into practice in our home. We actually don’t have dishes yet—just two plates and a bowl for the two of us. I’ve been waiting for inspiration to strike (which will probably happen when I start going to flea markets). When the bowl broke this morning, I was ready with pix I’d snapped in passing, of a shop window with pretty bowls.

We now return to the regularly-scheduled coat discussion.
Anchie, sorry for the side-track.

Thanks, Anchie. Probably a good idea to return. Greg told me about his trip this time

I love the idea of a bright and cheery rain coat, but then when a rainy gloomy overcast day hits.... I find myself wanting something much more muted to befit the day. As in, black, navy or olive. I am like this with the clothes underneath too.

Am I the only one?

But I do like wearing patent leather shoes on rainy days!

You need Angie's happy coat

I’m going off-topic again, because I can’t find the thread about your daughter’s upcoming celebration. What about the jumpsuit you mentioned on the blog? Try it on & start a thread.

If you can’t wear it right away, you find it expensive AND you’re not sure, I vote return. Start searching again if you still consider it a wardrobe hole in fall perhaps? There are similar options in fun colors out there too :).

Liesbeth and JenniNz - you are very wise, I am returning it
shiny - I think I am opposite, I crave color on a gloomy day
FashIntern - I had the same idea to wear jumpsuit to graduation, but my DD is thinking about wearing jumpsuit herself and she forbid me to wear it too, no way that she will be twinning with her mom - her words I am thinking now that maybe it will be better to sort her outfit first, and see what options are left for me. If she doesn’t end up wearing jumpsuit I may wear mine.
