For closet- organizing nerds and also appropos Angie's update on same re: out of sight, out of mind:
I usually don't use hoods on coats because to me they are less flattering and not usually needed,so look for ones without or that are removable. I stored them in shoe pockets along with gloves/ hats in coat closet " in case".
I've not had covered parking at work, and this year in some heavy rains I finally had a lightbulb moment and realized the limits of umbrella coverage- I can get soaked trying to open and close and manage car door etc.; same when on errands with grocery bags or whatnot.
So, brilliantly and after reading posts by YLF ers who use hooded coats more, I said, hmm, I need a trench with a hood, after all, and think my short haircut can tolerate the " bad hair" effects of hood.
In recent KonMari mode, I went through hats& gloves & such and rediscovered the that, lo, my fave MK raspberry trench had/ has a hood that I removed!
Also, I realized that duh, hanging the hoods on the coat hangers WITH corresponding coats does not take up any more space ( I had thought it would be cumbersome and unnecessary if seldom using the hoods) and frees up storage for the gloves.
So, I now have a hooded coat at the ready for days when real rains are expected; I realized that any new color major trench purchase probably should also have a detachable hood; and now all other hoods ( DH coats included) are with their coats and our gloves and casual knit hats are now not squished and double- parked.
Amazing, what is hiding in plain sight in the closets!
