Wardrobe Audit: Part Three. Bottoms

I will not be including clothing from my special occasion capsule in the wardrobe audit posts. I may do a separate post for that part of my wardrobe.

Dresses and Tunics are not bottoms but I have only two so I am not doing a separate post for them.

That's a lot of denim for the winter. Do you ever find yourself craving casual pants that aren't jeans? I'm guessing not. You probably need more jeans instead. The 7FAM look excellent.

(Disclaimer - I am not a big denim wearer, only have two pairs in regular circulation.)

Approprio I never crave anything except more denim. I wait patiently for summer to end so that I can wear jeans.
I can't really wear denim when it is freezing cold. I wear fleece lined leggings. My denim wearing time is limited.
The Palazzo 7FAM are excellent. They were a crazy purchase. So expensive and I knew I had to wear heels with them. I love them. Here is a pic prehemming.

You have a nice tight wardrobe and you look great in denim so I can see why you enjoy wearing it.

I think it gets very cold where you live - I am guessing for quite a while...do you live in the leggings and cords and gear for that time?

I have the exact same problem -- I love denim but don't love wearing it when it's bone-chillingly cold out. I am having to restrain myself from adding more pairs of jeans, because I have enough and love them all, but I'd really love a grey or black pair for this fall...

I am amazed at how tightly edited your wardrobe is. If you can't wear denim in the cold it seems like you don't have enough bottoms for super cold weather. Or at least it would not be enough for me and it is not very many in comparison to your warmer weather pants capsule. I think you deserve more cold weather bottoms considering how long a winter you have.

El Cee I am determined to do this wardrobe audit before buying anymore items. I really didn't think I would learn much about my wardrobe when I started but I have actually learnt a lot.

Kiwigal/Sally The winters here are very cold. We do escape for about 2 months so that helps. But I don't have much to wear except fleecy leggings. But then I live a very casual lifestyle in the winter.
La Ped It is difficult to find something warm to wear when it is -30 C. I live in gear but I can't think of anything else. Move perhaps to the West Coast.
Suz I don't know what to wear when it is bone chilling cold. Fleece leggings are about it. My Sorels (not fashionable ones!) certainly do not make a style statement paired with these leggings.

I've really been enjoying reading your wardrobe audit posts. I LOVE denim as well but can only wear it comfortably outdoors for about five months of the year. I think I agree with your climate you could use some more cold weather bottoms. The 7FAM jeans are great!

Flannel lined jeans maybe? Have you ever tried those? I have tried wearing silk leggings under jeans during a few cold vacations and it worked pretty well but I imagine flannel would be warmer.

You could use more cold weather bottoms. When jeans are not warm enough, I wear tights under them. It's a good use for old tights or an unfortunate color choice, like lavendar or green.
Have you considered leather pants? They are my go-to choice for really cold days as they cut the icy wind. Lined wool is also nice and they are often abundant at thrift and consignment stores. Will the wide legged jeans work for wet weather?

Style Fan, my solution has always been to have a few pairs of jeans that accommodate base layers -- I have a good variety of Heattech, Capilene, and merino wool leggings that are very thin and work under my 501s (which fit like a loose boyfriend) and my bootcuts.

I spend a lot of time in gear in the winter too -- fleece-lined hiking pants, fleece-lined running tights, etc. But then, I also spend a lot of time in gear in the summer. Spring and fall are definitely easier for me to play the style game; once the weather gets extreme I sort of give up.

For a long time I wore wool trousers, too, but I've donated or consigned all my old pairs: they were all too big or very worn. I'm searching for new ones at the moment. Same goes for corduroy -- I have one pair that I really need to replace before the seams give out.

Ah, you get away for 2 months. That does make a difference. So you're wearing from the warm weather capsule then. This explains why you have so many linen pants. I was very confused!

So this means you have a shorter winter..maybe 2 to 3 months of real winter? Hmm.

I'm in favour of trendy cords and maybe velvet pants as an addition, and possibly a pair of wool culottes.

Great suggestions everyone. Winter dressing is very difficult. Especially because I run cold. Mr SF and I have thought about moving to Victoria to escape winter but our families are here. Maybe we should convince them to move.
Texstyle I have seen flannel lined jeans. That was a few decades ago. I think it was at Eddie Bauer. I will keep my eyes open for them. I have some long underwear that go under pants. I can not stand the feeling.
Joy I did have leather and suede pants in the past. Good idea about the wool pants. I will check out the local thrift store. Even a new pair would be a good idea.
La Ped I also live in gear. That is our life. I am starting to think wool pants is a good idea. Hmm.
Angie a Leopard topper is on my HEWI list. I have been searching for one. Another pair of cords is a great idea. They are comfy.
Suz we do escape winter for a few months. But we still have to be here for some of it. I like velvet pants. And cords. I am on it.
And a Leopard topper. Or cardigan. Or both.

Eddie Bauer does carry flannel lined jeans -- boyfriend style. I have two pairs and wear them in the deep winter months. They are toasty warm. This year they offer them in 3 color choices -- gray, dark wash and a lighter wash.

They other way I can extend my regular jeans wearing into the coldest months is to wear fleece lined tights under them. You may want to try this trick.
