W2W cocktail dress

I'm going to a black tie party on Friday, but black tie where I am means cocktail dresses rather than red carpet glamour.

I am trying to glam up a trusty black sheath dress. Does it work? Which accessories are best?
Basic outfit is:
Black sheath dress
Patterned hose
Black kitten heel shoes (don't have anything suitable that's higher)

Variables are:
Twisted mini bead necklace (1,2) or twisted diamanté necklace (3)
Snakeskin or red clutch
Vintage hand painted stole/shawl or nothing
Feather and beaded hair clip (3) or not

Any thoughts?

Gorgeous dress, and what fun!

I think it looks lovely in all these combinations. I actually prefer the dress without the shawl, but the shawl is lovely and for me, that would depend on temperature; if you need it, bring it! I like it with the pop of red. And at the moment, working on my laptop - it's tough to tell on my small monitor how the necklaces differ, so I will leave that to those who have a bigger screen!

You are all wonderful! I'm guiltily aware of how little I am posting at the moment so I am doubly grateful to you all for responding.

It's always so helpful as it makes me look at things differently, just by posting and then by the replies. I love the fact that people see different things - it helps me understand more about outfits I've put together.

I couldn't post a close up of the necklaces (and know you can't see very well, sorry) but for practical reasons had decided against the one in 3 anyway (it kept going lopsided, and that was just in the minute or so we were taking the photos).

Beth Ann you really made me laugh! It probably will only be WTW to get the groceries from now on!

So excited about this. The wrap was inherited from my grandmother and I never thought that I'd ever be able to make it work. I love that it gives a nod to the big floral/vintage trends around at the moment. Glad you like the red clutch.

The dress is a lovely shape and style on you. I usually don't love wraps but that one is sheer and very pretty. I love the red clutch with it!

I like the first necklace and no shawl. I prefer the red clutch. I think you need fancier shoes, though. Patent leather, for instance, or metallic. And I think you need hose that are more sheer.

I rather like the feathered headband, but I think it competes with the necklace.

ETA, just read the replies...the shawl IS very beautiful...does it clash with the red clutch or match it?

You're right about the shoes. I can't improve that from what I have but have added 'high party shoes' to my 'need to get' list.

You're also righ about the tights - I really want some more sheer ones with the same type of pattern. It was all I could find but I've just thought of a couple of places I will try tomorrow for that. Just needed the push and appreciate that!

Agree looking again about the hair clip - thanks for pointing that it fights a bit with the necklace.

Have double checked and the wrap does go with the red clutch.
