Ever have one of those days where you just cannot figure out why an outfit isn't working? Sometimes its a matter of proportions! Often I will dress is almost exactly the same thing as a friend and yet I look frumpy and she will look great. Has anyone else ever noticed this?

I had to look twice maybe three times to make sure it was the same person pre and post! Wow! Great visual!!

So true! Sometimes I try a dozen outfits in the morning and can't figure out why nothing works until I realize that the shirt is too short, or something.

It came across my pinterest feed this morning. There was only the image and no link to anymore information....which was frustrating because also I want more information along this line! I'm going to keep hunting and will link to it if/when I find it.

This is why I do things like shorten my tops so they hit just so. An inch or two can make a world of difference. Thank goodness my mother taught me to sew. It's such a valuable skill to have.

Thanks for the image! I do agree that proportions can do amazing things for an outfit.

The thing I found most fascinating in this image is the difference that the neckline makes. I don't often pay much attention to where my neckline hits. I'll have to watch that.

Am I the only one that is really annoyed by the words "same outfit"? Obviously it's the same colors and some even the shape, but if one skirt is ankle length and another is knee length... ITS NOT THE SAME OUTFIT sorry not yelling lol I just don't know html on my phone or I would do italics.
To me, "same outfit" implies that it's the exact same pieces but maybe belted, or cuffed or something. Not completely different items. Whatever, rant over. I totally see the point they're making

I think I can learn from this. I am confident with my colour choice, shoe selection, mixing patterns and textures. But I think my proportions can be wrong at times.

I have at least one top that would benefit from shortening, and I will take a look at this.

That's quite interesting, although I notice that in some of the cases the woman is posing differently too (e.g. turned a by to side vs straight on or with her arm cocked to show her waist line better vs arm flat to side). Number one convinces me that I need to take a serious look at the lengths of my tops though! I suspect I'd do better with gems hitting around mid-hip, like the woman shown.

Trekkiegirl, yes! The one example looks like they put the dress on her backward for the "before" shot, though, so maybe it really is the "same outfit."

I definitely need this help. I notice the company sold a $30 pdf that gives you individual measurements but seems to be defunct. but if it's just the Golden Ratio, Icould do the math myself, if I knew where to begin measuring. Head? Shoulders? There's also something about the width of the shoulder line that comes into play.

When it comes to proportions I figure them out for the pieces I buy then I stay in my lane. I do play in my closet often enough to try out new proportions but generally creating more volume at or below my hips (because proportionally they are non-existent) is going to be the winning proportion no matter what the combination.

I have a wardrobe full of basics in neutral colors and similar cuts, but I have to try on every new combination and tweak it, because an inch here or there really does make such a difference!

Terrific illustration. I agree they aren't the same pieces, but it is the same woman on the same day (presumably) and the difference that the right pieces/proportions make is stunning.
