Vince Jersey Turtleneck Try-On

My eye appointment just happened to be near a Nordstrom so I popped in to try a few more things on for size. The store is cleaned out, I sure hope they re-stock before Friday!

I did manage to find one single Vince Jersey Turtleneck in a size Medium to try. Like Angie said, this runs small for Vince. The Medium is more volume than I prefer right now. I could make it work but passed because I have the small on order. I hope it fits because this is a top I feel that I could live in. My weird pose is to show the sleeve length, volume and slouch.

I also found the Paige Plaid Shirt I was considering. I'm so happy they had one in my size to try on because it was a bust. Big in the shoulders, tight across the bust and super long sleeves. I tried the XS and S and both were horrible fits. I cannot imagine who they used as a fit model, it was that bad. Disappointing because the color and plaid is amazing!

Suz and Colette: I am a XS in BR, a 2 in JCrew.The size chart puts me in an XS, but you're saying it is small, so maybe an S would be better?

Smittie, I hope Suz chimes in. I'm not a JCrew shopper so I can't relate to the size reference. But It sounds like I'm a size larger than you. I average a size 4 on top.

Smittie, how are you with TIGHT things around your neck, and do you have broad shoulders? I'm inclined to suggest a size Small. I wear a 0 or 00 at J.Crew, and the XS in the Vince turtleneck was a perfect fit (NO. I didn't get it!). I also have a very narrow neck and narrow shoulder line. What do you think?

I like tight things on my neck. I'm average-necked I think.
I definitely can't fit a 00 at JCrew, ever. A 0 works best in the shoulders but I usually got for a 2 for room in the chest and under the arm.
I think a small will be best for me.

Oh wow. CRAP. Must stop looking at your posts!!! Wondering if a Medium actually would be best for me? I'm a definite 4 at JCrew but I think I would want a little room/fluidity. What do you think, Collette and Angie?

Hmmm. I'm a bit smaller. Bust 32, waist 25 or 26. I went with xs for the Vince and hope (1) I actually GET it (all of this Canadian ordering feels like hocus pocus so far) and (2) it fits.

I usually take an XS at BR, a 0 in shirts at J. Crew and usually an XS in sweaters but sometimes a S (depending on the fit I prefer).

I have square but narrow shoulders, if that makes sense. In other words, they are wide around (almost 40"!!) but the width is all side-to-side and I am narrow narrow front to back. My frame is not quite as small as Angie's (though I am shorter) -- but close to it. Technically, based on wrist size, I'm on the borderline between small and medium framed, verging on small. I usually take a size or two up from Angie's in numbered designer clothing and jeans. But in stretchy knit items we are often the same because the top part is very similar -- I have a longish narrow neck and we wear the same bra size.

I am a 10/12 or a L in most tops but a M in Vince. I ordered the M turtleneck before hearing it ran small. It's in one of my packages that just got delivered. I can chime in with additional sizing info once I try it on

I know this is hard, ladies. Vince USUALLY runs big, but this top runs small. AND the fit is very fluid and drapey but tapers back onto the hips, which makes things more complicated. We will get there.....

Suz, I also have narrow but square shoulders. They do not slope at all. As long as you know upfront that the neck is very tight on the XS. I'm fine with that - in fact I love it! I hope you love it too.

Viv, my size 8 clients (petite, regular AND tall) got this top in an M. It was a brilliant fit and they LOVED it. They all got both colours! You should be fine in a Small.

Julesegr, I think you need to size up on this one if you like it. It runs small.

Viva, I would like mine to fit smaller than the medium I tried on all over, including the neck so I'm glad I ordered the small. And I love the grey color that is called espresso. It's grey, not espresso.

I added another picture in a more normal pose that may help you see the fit better.

Right. I know just what you mean, Angie. I won't mind a snug neck if it is soft fabric. Hopefully I won't find myself between sizes on this one.

Why on earth would they call it espresso?! I think somebody messed up somewhere along the line.

I prefer a snug rather than a tight fit on my turtle/polonecks.

Lovely turtleneck and I appreciate the feedback on the fit of the Paige plaid shirt. I wanted one last year but never pulled the trigger and figured I'd try them this year. But I have never tried this brand for fit and I'm broad shoulder and have a wide back so it doens't sound like this will be cut for me. Too bad because the plaid is really pretty.

Lisa, I'm pretty sure I bought the Paige plaid shirt last year. I'm broad-shouldered, too, but it worked pretty well for me. The sleeves are indeed long and I think I unbuttoned an extra button to avoid gaping, but the drape and color was terrific. I'd give the brand a try if you are at all interested and see how it works for you.
