Vince jacket score is JFE ? - YouLookFab Forum

I quit consigning things at my local consignment shop and hence haven't been there in quite awhile. I didn't tend to find things that seemed right and am prone to the price goggles problem.

For some reason I stopped by --I think because I was frustrated with regular Retail recently. As usual there was mostly stuff that was too casual or seemed dated or was for the imaginary lifestyle and too flamboyant.
Then in the jacket section, this Vince jacket popped out at me. See the stock photo from Lyst. If I had seen it online I would not likely have tried it, because it looks very boxy, sort of cocoon-like. . It IS somewhat boxy, and has soft shoulders, but to my eye it is slightly fitted and perhaps is sized more snugly on me than the model. It is a sort of boiled wool or felted wool, unlined but with finished seams, leather collar and trim. The collar style is one of my favorites. If you look closely at the stock photo, which has better lighting, you can see the neat lapel treatment. I'm showing the pocket flaps that I will likely keep tucked in for smoother line and to show the trim better. I've just got it on with pants and loafers but since it's very warm, and bare ankles are a bit seasonally confused, pic 3 is with WHBM cuffed ponte ankle pants over boots. Also it is possible to flip the lapels but not really wearable that way, since if it's unbuttoned, the chest pocket insides will peek out when the lapel is rolled. Shown buttoned because yes, I can button! but seldom button my jackets; that also helps it look less severe.

So, this never happens to me, finding something kinda cool like this, and I really like it and I think of it as being versatile and having longevity--meaning I can wear it to work and also more casually with jeans, or joggers, now and if retired, when some other blazers might be harder to style. I would call it my alternate blazer style; I mostly need sharp slightly fitted jackets with good shoulder line but I also have a couple softer, knit types.

What say you--is this a fun score or am I seeing it through my consignment sales-goggles?

I don't care for it buttoned, but unbuttoned looks OK. It seems like it is a little big in the bust, which shows up when it is buttoned.

Have you checked the view from back to see if the shoulders fit?

My concern proportion-wise is that the blazer seems to cut you in half. But maybe that is not a big issue if you are looking for JFE?

Gigi, those are good points. I’ve got my shoulders forward to take the photos so it’s actually more snug when standing straight and moving. But, it IS a less precisely fitted style which makes it more of a stretch for me.
I know what you mean by cutting in half. That is always my issue with body shape and especially with flats. I don’t like most short jackets due to either hip fit or the rear view or something. This one is 25” long which has tended to be a favorite length. I know I do have a couple shorter that work, and it’s a rare thing of cut and fit that’s hard to find.

I think this jacket can be a fun JFE piece. But I like how you’ve given good food for thought about proportions. I’ve been moving toward a style refresher- I think I don’t fit “renewal “ because I have a lot of items that work- but maybe need to see if I want to try harder to get the longer legline proportions in my outfits or to let it go!

cindysmith, thanks —May be only just enough! I think for styling it requires certain bottoms and footwear to counter the “ roundness” . I think I have those items but need to play around some to see. Jeans are inherently easier.

It's a gorgeous jacket. Love that neckline.

I'm with Gigi on the fit -- something seems off in the bust area and it's more noticeable when it is buttoned. Also the proportions with high contrast trousers are not ideal, but you could wear lower contrast. I wonder if the stance is a bit low for you and/or whether moving the button one way or another might help. Also...maybe try with a knit underneath to see if it takes up some of the excess room in the bust.

tulle, thanks for analysis— that is how I’d like to wear it, as a different look than classic fitted blazers, but figure out what brings out those aspects in a way that works on me.

I like it with the collar up and the pocket flaps tucked. It looks very modern. I would wear it with jeans, making it an everyday sort of jacket. Why not enjoy it as much as you can?

It s a very nice jacket ,I think that it will be very useful.l don’t like it with the trousers you have on though ,something to do with the taper on the trouser.Would a higher rise bootcut dark jean work?Time to have fun styling it!

Thank you! Cardiff girl, I appreciate TGIF input. The jacket may need some balance if I have “ ice cream cone “ shape. And more structured bottoms.
As the opposite, I often try to wear these slouchy zip hem pants with a shorter, more structured topper.
These are good ideas. I think the blazer is fun enough to be worth playing around for the right combinations.
