Anchie, I'm thinking of you and your family. We lived a couple hours from Pulse nightclub and from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas. I know you've been through worse, but am sure you are hugging your daughter and husband, and are thinking of your son tonight. I am so sorry. I wish you, your city, and all of us peace.

Oh wow. This is the first I've learned of this. I used to live just outside of Vienna long ago as an exchange student. I feel like I remember being told this area (Stadttempel) had a history of attacks? This was in the early 80s and I remember armed guards around the synagogue? Am I misremembering this?

My heart is with you... it's always been with Vienna since I lived there.

I am fine but in shock. This is the area where we go for evening walks, but last night I had to stay in office late and was too tired to go for a walk.

It was last day before lockdown, last day when restaurants are open and people allowed to be out after 8PM and a balmy day, so there were tons of people out in the area of shootings.

Situation is still volatile and we are all excused from going to work or school today.

I am thinking of you and all other Fabbers in Vienna, Anchie. What a relief that you skipped that walk yesterday! More lives lost, it's such a tragedy. When will this stop??!!-(((

Hi Anchie, glad to hear you are well. My brother & his family live in Vienna and there were lots of frantic calls yesterday, but everyone is OK.

I hope you stay safe and that they catch the suspect(a) on the run soon.

Anchie, thanks for letting us all know how you are doing. You see how many of us are thinking about you & your city. I agree with Inge—thank goodness you didn’t go for your usual constitutional! Here too, it was a warm day and people were out getting their last x (for me it was a swim) in before shutdown. Hope you can feel some calm today.

In all the crazy US election news, I totally missed this. I’m glad you are ok, Anchie, but sorry for Vienna. Such a beautiful city that we thoroughly enjoyed visiting three years ago.

Unfortunately some of my personal relationships were collateral damage of this terror attack. My husband is muslim and it is difficult for me to tolerate any type of hate speech.

Anchie, I’m sorry! I remember how stressful life became for Muslim friends of mine in the US after the bombing of the Murray building in Oklahoma City—even though the terrorist who did it was born & raised in the US, not Muslim at all. I’m sure it’s hard for your family now too. I am so sorry. But good on you for standing up for your family!

Even though we are far from the Black Lives Matter protests in the US, they have had a bit of a similar effect for us (although I don’t think any huge surprises were revealed—more that we learned some people were more insightful/sulllrtive than we expected).

Anchie - I am thinking of you. I just keep reminding myself that there are far more good and tolerant people in this world than divisive ones. You and my other friends in YLF community really helps me to feel the powerful force for good that is universal and not country or religion specific. Vienna is such a beautiful city with amazing history, it was a joy to visit your city in 2007, I hope to return.

anchie - my heart goes out to you and your beautiful city. DH and I were in Vienna for the first time last a year ago and were amazed by the beauty, culture and joy that it exudes.

Last night DD and I went to city center to check out christmas lights. On the way there we had to take the same route that shooter took. Here are the photos from our walk.
