May 24, or the nearest Monday, is celebrated in Canada as Queen Victoria's birthday. Although I knew it as Firecracker Day growing up! And it is primarily the weekend for opening up the cottage or camp, or prepping the garden (still risk of frost in much of the country).
We had different plans. We've been trying to find a way to watch the recent series, Victoria. My daughter found a way we can stream it by supporting PBS through an affiliated station... So what better way to mark the first episode, and the holiday, than a proper English tea?
Bottom tier: cucumber sandwiches and smoked salmon sandwiches. Middle tier: currant scones. Top tier: vanilla wafer biscuits, chocolates. To drink: rhubarb punch and tea. Daughter took the photo of me and Mom, who is nearly 90.
The punch line? The weather was too nice to waste indoors watching telly! We worked in the garden.
Also installed a new gazebo this weekend. It will be the site of future tea parties when friends and family are able to visit again.
