Hi guys,

Sorry to spam you with 2 posts in one day, but this is completely unrelated to my other picture post. This time I need advice on vests please!

I have a black cotton vest that I want to get duplicated in Vietnam as I have had zero luck finding any in colours other than black here. Here's pics of how I've worn it before:

I have a few specific questions about the duplicate items:

1) The size of the existing vest itself is perfect for me, but what about the length, do you think I should go a bit longer, or is it ok as is?

2) How about pockets? Its hard to see in both pics but there is a triangle fake-pocket and then a hidden real pocket on the front of both sides. Should I keep as is, go with just a hidden pocket, or ditch the pockets altogether (or does that make it too boring?) See my dodgy sketch below for exactly what I mean.

3) Also seen in sketch below is the existing hemline; there's a horizontal jump right where the buttons start. Is this usual on vests? If not I might just scrap it as I don't really see the point. Or am I missing something?

Depending on fabrics available I'd like a grey/purple cotton one, and a tweedy brown one. I'm also planning on getting some bright, funky coloured lining (my current one is unlined). Is there anything else you would change if you could??

I'm really bad at this Tam, but I just wanted to say that you look super in a vest and getting a few new ones sounds like a great idea. (I love the colours and fabrics you are considering as well!).

I don't mind the pockets at all, it does add some quirky interest. Maybe you could have the grey/purple one made with pockets and the tweedy one without (since tweed already adds some visual interest)?

But let's hear what the other ladies have to say.

Hi Tam, I think you look great in the black best. The fit is good. I think the length is good too because you are wearing longer shirts underneath it. I like the idea of a grey/purple and tweed. I think those would look great.

From what I can see on the black ones, the pockets look good, but on a new one maybe you could get one without pockets and one with. Also, I like your idea of having a funky colored lining. Looking forward to see how the results turn out!

The vest looks great on you Tam, and I would certainly duplicate it as is, in any material you want. Both you mentioned sound luscious to me.

I like the idea of a longer waistcoat, but this one looks sweet too. And I'm impressed with all your lovely sketches! Go for it. Choose a simple version and see what happens. It’s an adventure.

How about a waistcoat in a shiny fabric? Quite fancy the idea of you in something baroque with your docs

Thanks so much for the feedback!!! I think I'll go for the cotton one as is and get the tweed one a tad longer just to experiment and make it a bit more formal.

As for a shiny version, it's an interesting idea Angie. Do you mean like a raw silk fabric or something else?

Not 100% sure about the pockets yet, maybe I'll go for the hidden ones on the tweed and copy my existing one on the cotton version. My midsection is definitely my problem area. I'm not sure whether pockets hide it or accentuate it by having an empty expanse of fabric!!!
