Woah, looks like they are real butterfly wings... looked up their Etsy site, and they also incorporate fox hur and horsetail hair. Not sure about the wings and fox fur - I am not an Urban Hunting Princess. I still like the stabby pendants, though.
Yay stabby pendants! Not so keen on dead furry/feathered/winged things.
In the interest of disclosure, do have two Christmas ornaments made from seal and polar bear fur (!), both gifted to me. But I don't think I'd actively buy them.
I think we walked by that store when Angie was in town, MaryK! I think it was also the first time I'd seen little cast skull pendants.
Gotta put my thinking cap on and keep an eye out for a way to DIY something similar, but without the body parts. I do have a rabbit-fur-lined coat, but that was both an accident (not mentioned in listing) and not a huge deal to me as an animal I'd be fine eating.
They're very beautiful. Cruel, I guess, but beautiful.
I'm afraid I went to science summer camp, we're we pinned bugs. They fell apart on the bus ride home, with all the windows down, I'm also afraid. Or is that TMI?
God I love these ! So THAT is what taxidermy jewelry is. I learn so much on this little site.
I would buy the laminated butterfly wings in a heartbeat - as long as they are from butterflies that are not harvested for this purpose and they have died a natural death. Natural Science Museums do this all the time....in fact, we have a beautiful butterflies framed piece that we bought at a Museum. They are gorgeous and wonderful to study. But turning it into jewelry is amazing. I would bet the Museums would be drooling to put this in there gift shops.
