Very confused (potential) first-time NAS shopper

So Angie is sending us pics of items like coats. I'm looking for one in the catalog and don't see it. Is what she's showing us excluded from the sale? I didn't see it on the general website either. Feeling like I am clueless as to what's going on. How am I supposed to order something I don't see? (Plus, what's all this about shopping assistants and appointments?)

Mochi, I'm certain the pics Angie is showing are all NAS items. Not sure why they wouldn't be showing up on the website, though.

Mochi,
The web site and the stores will have more than the printed catalog, and something available in store may not be online and vice versa.

Are you logged in to the web site as a cardholder for early access? If not you can only see items if someone posts a specific link, and then it will show the item but no pricing info and you won't be able to add it to your cart.

Hope that helps! Every year it seems to be run a bit differently.

Thank you, Nadya. That clears up some of it. I had also just read Angie in one of the posts: "So much better than the catalog."

I don't have a Nordstrom card and no info on the coat. Maybe I'll PM Angie directly just to find out its make, and then I can call locally to see if it's in stock.

Oh, Parsley, I just now read your post where you say the reddish orange coat with the oval pockets is a Betsey Johnson. That helps immensely! That's the one I am eyeing.

This is my first go-round with the NAS, as well. We have no Nordies in this state (the entire STATE!). I don't have a card, so I will also have to wait until the sale goes "public". I have my fingers crossed that the ONE item I want isn't gone. They do restock, though, right? I mean, even if I miss the sale price, they will get restocked on most things, I am assuming. I want one item bad enough that I'm okay if I miss the sale price; I just have to HAVE it.

Echo, I think that when it is gone, it is gone. Things were flying off the shelves today at my local store. I wasn't able to book my appointment until Friday, but I did go into my local store and several very helpful SAs let me into the curtained off areas where they keep the NAS merchandise.

What were you looking for? I looked at a number of different areas--maybe I can tell you whether I saw it in stock.

Also, don't despair. People do buy in the initial crush, take it home, think about it and then return it, so just because it is sold out the first day doesn't mean it won't be back on the third.

So I'm still being dense, but in other words, if you have a Nordstrom card you can start buying now? Which means either in-store or through the catalog (which doesn't seem to carry much of the inventory)? And do you need an appointment with a personal shopper to do the sale in-store?

Some of the items look great, but in general I HATE feeling pressured to buy or else it's gone. Not that you asked my opinion But that's probably the attitude you need to get a fab wardrobe!

Yes, you have to be a card holder to buy now. The sale opens to everyone else on the 20th. I believe the online shopping will be more than just the items that came out in the catalog.

Some stores require an appointment to pre-shop, others do not.

Okay, so this isn't a preview of some fall merchandise on sale? I cannot believe that all of the items on NAS are so exclusive that once they are gone they are gone, or that no one else will have them. For example, there are Kate Spade handbags in the catalogue. So would those be styles that no other department store will get? The Kate Spade wouldn't carry them themselves for fall? The merchandise is exclusive to Nordies and only in limited quantities? I can see some of the pieces being that way, but not all of them, especially not the ones from brands that other stores carry. But then again, I am new to the NAS, so I honestly have no idea how this all works!

That ambiguity is one thing that bothers me. (I think I will call Nordstrom tomorrow and ask that very question.)

I don't know the percentages but some of the items are produced special for NAS. I'm not sure if that's only store brands, or if they also have special runs of designer brands done too. Some items will have left overs after the sale that will go on deeper discount, some items will be reordered after the sale and some are limited quantity and will sell out during the sale and not be replenished at all.

There's a 24 hr live chat option on the website. They can fill in the gaps for you.

Echo, it varies. From what I can see online, there are specific items that are marked as "Nordstrom Exclusive", which means no one else will get them.

Online selection is much bigger than the catalog but I wonder if there are items in the stores which are not online. I could not find Angie's new leather jackets from her twitter account...just curious.

I just checked online and the Betsey Johnson capelet is still available in all regular sizes, both burnt orange and black. In the Petite size range, it looks like it was only made in black and it is still shown as available. Is that the one you wanted? It looks like it is also available in Plus sizes. Don't know if this is helpful...hope you get what you want.

ETA: also available on Plus sizes, all sizes available in black and burnt orange.

Are items in the catalogue marked the same way? I don't think I have access to the online version of anything except the catalogue without a Nordie's card, do I? I guess I will just have to take a deep breath and wait until the 20th and try to order then. It is hard to remind myself that even if I find something irresistable, that doesn't mean that everyone else will be after the same thing!
