I like velvet with a contrasting texture - highlights the lovely velvet.
And I think you can treat some velvet pants just like jeans, if the pants are structured (not flowy). Meaning, they can work with many many things.
Denim and velvet is a great combination - can be dressy-casual, or edgy-dressy: denim shirt, blazer, or traditional denim jacket. Wear a simple cotton, or fancier sequin tee underneath. Faded denim with velvet is so nice!
Poufy poet/boho blouses or crisp cotton shirts.
Kimono style topper - can be casual or dressy depending on the shoes.
From a super-chunky knit, like a cabled sweater, to a fair-isle pattern, to finer merino or cashmere. I guess mohair or angora might not work (little fuzzies everywhere). You could experiment with sweater style too - cropped or long or a more traditional length.
Statement jacket: brocade, quilted silk/satin, patchwork.
Doc Martens, Cowboy boots, moto boots, the new hiking-style boots, even real hiking/work boots like Timberlands.
I think I like velvet!
