Vaccine weight gain?

Has anyone else had a big weight gain after getting the covid vaccine? I dunno if coincidental or not, but I've gained 22 lbs since shortly after my shots, 1st in mid-Feb . I got the Moderna one, along with my husband and sister, no issues with them. My diet, activity level hadn't changed, yet this came on suddenly, only change I've had and now I'm heavier than I've been for 15 years! I DO have a history of my thyroid going whacko, but not for many years. Seeing my Dr 4/8, will get test done. Meanwhile I have nothing but newly bought sweatpants to fit my bulging tummy Wanted to do a big closet purge but that will need to wait till I find out what is happening, it's literally a gain every 2-3 days

Gosh, I've never heard of that as a side effect for a vaccine Glad you have an appointment scheduled; do you have a telehealth line or can you call your doctor's office just to find out if there is anything to worry about? Not that I think you should worry, but if you are already, maybe there is a way to get some reassurance while you wait for your check-up Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will be able to help you out here!

I haven’t heard of this; I wonder if it’s water retention—check your lower legs & ankles to see if they feel or appear swollen.

Hmm. That’s very quick. Something hormonal does come to my mind first, not necessarily thyroid. I’d take it easy until you see your doctor and get tests. That’s my uncle-the-cardiologist’s best remedy for everything...

Agreeing with Ophelia that it's likely water, but scary that it's so much so quick. Glad you're seeing your doctor!
If your insurance company has a nurse line and it continues, I'd give them a call.

I wouldn’t wait a week til your Doctor’s visit. This needs testing and medical advice now. Nurse line? Urgent care?

That is a really significant gain, and I don't know that I'd be comfortable waiting a week, either. Whether it is actual weight or water retention, that's a pretty drastic change for such a short period of time, and points to something being really wrong. I hope you and your dr. figure it out soon!

As for the shots, I believe the two - weight gain and vaccinations - are unrelated. In a weight-obsessed country, you can bet it would have been all over the news if weight gain, especially a significant one, were in any way associated with the shots.

Agree that western society's media values size 000 bodies so much that we would have heard about weight gain being a side effect. I hope your doc gets it figured out quickly and gets whatever it is remedied

I agree that it sounds like something is going on but doubt it is related to the vaccine. Better get it checked out.

Agreed with all the above. My BFF is a doctor and says there has been no reported correlation at all between vaccine and weight gain. The rapidity of this would definitely be an incentive to go to the doctor sooner rather than later. I hope everything is ok — please let us know when you get some answers.

Please call your dr to be seen right away....this could be something serious that needs attending...Hope all is okay but a weight gain this large needs to be tended to....take care.

Weight gain that fast can only be water retention. Get to a doctor stat!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. If you're not sure whether you need urgent care, you could call your insurance company's nurse line if you have one. They could help you make the decision.

I know two people with similar weight gains. One was thyroid related and one I don’t know if they know. The first was put on thyroid medicine and the second was given medicine that helped the body release the water.
Hopefully some of our doctors here will weigh in, or you could dm one. Calling an info line or calling back the office also recommended.
