I bought one of these last year and have not yet worn it. I can't pinpoint exactly why - it *should* work for me. I love the color, it's casual, it's light weight for my warm climate, and it should work over a simple tee or other simple top. But something about it still makes me pause. Too boyish? Too boxy? I don't know. I'll have to give it a try with more jewelry and feminine accents I guess. I don't really even own a single floral top but I have a feeling it would be good under this jacket.
Oh, I like it! I have an olive Loft jacket from last year, but it looks like your version is cropped, which I'd wear even more. I also picked up this cropped mustard Zara jacket late last summer and wear it all the time.
I agree with RobinF... try a styling session and see what you come up with!
I think attention to proportions helps, and I also like to “ juxtapose” with more feminine items. I like with pencil skirts, or dresses, or pants that are tapered , or if wide, are higher waisted, and footwear more refined.
Sometimes when I have this problem, I try to alter the jacket with my hands as I'm looking in the mirror. If I think maybe the length is too long, I'll fold up the hem with my hand and see how that looks. If I think it's too boxy, I'll try to nip in the material with my hand at the back of the jacket and see what I think. If I think a particular design element is "off," I'll cover it up with my hand. That usually helps me pinpoint the problem.
Agreeing that the color keeps it from looking boyish, but the models arm position makes it appear more fitted. I like the stylings, so try a few things and see how you feel about it.
