Using "finds" to decide what to add to your wardrobe

I love using the YLF finds feature, and just figured out a new way to use it to view my knitwear collection and decide what to add next. Maybe some of you other fabbers already do this, but I figured I'd explain it anyway. Of course this would work for pants, footwear, or any other category.

I have just about finished doing a refresh of my fall/winter knitwear, buying a handful of new sweaters. I still need to create finds for some that were already in my closet. I live in New England where we have very cold and long winters, and I run cold, so sweaters are something I wear every day for about half of the year.

When I look at all my new items together, I see a very clear pattern of very simple styles, mostly solid classic crewnecks and turtlenecks with just a few more interesting styles. Once I saw this I decided that I want any future purchases to be more interesting shapes, patterns etc. More Statement-y than basic. I've started grabbing some finds for inspiration and figured out how to use finds to view the two groupings side by side. .

In window #1 select "knitwear" and "wardrobe". This is my current selection

In window #2 selects "knitwear" and "considering". These are some ideas I'm considering.

You could also do this using the collection feature but that is a little more work IMHO.

Bless your heart, Chris. You are fabulous. I'm thrilled to hear you use Finds in this way.

I LOVE the Finds feature too. FULL STOP.

It makes writing posts sooooo much easier.
It makes suggesting items on the forum easier too.
I can "pack" my capsules in collections first.
I like using the "Shopping" category to decide what I want to purchase next. It keeps items that I want top of mind.
I have my entire wardrobe in the Finds "Wardrobe" feature and can manage what I have online beautifully. I can show it to others easily too.

I have come to depend on Finds to do a lot of my shopping. GREAT feature. One I have come to love.

That's a great idea. I love the finds feature, maybe too much, as it makes it so easy to purchase whatever catches my eye!

Thanks Angie, and yes yes yes to all the other ways you use finds! I have to say that the finds feature is one of the best user-friendly features I've ever seen in software. I wrote a lot of software early in my career and I saw a LOT of stuff that was clunky and awkward to use and YLF is sooo much better. If Greg designed it all on his own, please tell him how wonderful it is. If you collaborated with him (as I suspect you did) then tell yourself too!

And yes Susie, it does make it too easy to do that "grabby hands" thing that Jenn was talking about in a recent posting. Extra discipline is required. Kind of a love/hate thing

That's a smart idea.

I sometimes try to avoid the Finds too much because I invariably find something from someone else's collection that sparks a case of the wants.

I could not manage to get the "considering" results for you.

Finds is one of my favorite little ways to see what's out there. I love to see what other people have added, and I often add items that are not necessarily for me but that I think another Fabber might appreciate.

I haven't used it much for actual wardrobe management, as I use stylebook. But i love it when something catches your eye and you want to be able to find it again.

I had never thought about using it in that kind of way, that's clever! Of course, I'm new here and started using it to make it easier to show what I'm wearing because I am horrible at selfies
