US shoe size equivalent?

Looking at Nordies' shoe size charts got me confused. I wear a 37 EU size and an UK 4, but going by the charts, this means my US size could be anything from 6 to 7.5! Um, how does that compute? (Some of the charts suggest a 37 EU is actually not an UK 4 --- but I swear they feel just the same on my feet!)

I would also say US size 6.5-7, Manidipa (sizing does vary depending on brands and style of the shoe).
I find the size charts on Zappos.com really helpful for this because they not only give the UK and Euro equivalents but also have foot lengths in inches and centimetres, which I find the most accurate measurement for me.
(just click on any shoe on the website, and then on "size chart")

I wear 39 or 8 in Australia, 8 in US, 6 in UK. Different brands vary of course.

Thanks, everyone! That sort of helps narrow it down. I should probably aim for the upper end (ie 7), given my wide and fussy feet.

Inge, Zappos.com refuses to allow access from India That does sound like the most sensible way to look, with actual measurements.

Of all things, I'm contemplating buying boots that can stand up to a downpour --- which is a pretty expensive purchase as it is for me, with both returns and shipping adding to costs. But I'm getting the impression I'll have to either pony up for a holiday abroad or continue to do without if I don't take a chance on an online purchase, since this is simply not something one sees much around here!

"Shoe sizes—Mondopoint system of sizing and marking" ... is based on the mean foot length and width for which the shoe is suitable, measured in millimetres. A shoe size of 280/110 indicates a mean foot length of 280 millimetres (11 in) and width of 110 millimetres (4.3 in)."

Thanks, Shannon! Good to hear from someone with similar-sized feet Would you say a wide-footed person may need to go up half a size? (I'm contemplating Doc Martens, if that makes any difference.)

If you can't access it, a US size 10 is Euro 40-41; UK 8; foot measures 10.1875 inches or 25.9 centimeters.
ETA: I see that Inge has you covered. I wear a 7.5 or 8 US and my euro sized are 38 but rather round toed.

I wear a size 5 US and size 35 Euro. I understand, however, that people on the upper end of the US range often need to size up for European shoes. My feet are wider in front with narrow heels, and quite small/short (a US 5.5 is consistently too long in the footbed, but sometimes fits if the width runs narrow).

I heard somewhere that a standard European size is based on C width, whereas US medium sizes are based on B width. US wide sizes, for comparison, can be either C or D width.

I am a US 7.5-8 and generally wear EU38 and UK5.5.

If you're looking at Docs, you should go by your UK size since that is their original sizing method. FWIW a lot of people size DOWN in docs but I had to size up since they don't make UK5.5. My toes hit the front of UK5 docs. I have narrow to medium width feet and very shallow insteps/no arches to speak of, and to be honest they kind of swim width-wise in the Docs (and mine are even heeled so a little less roomy than classic styles).
