Urgent - Advice needed -update

A few days ago I got this skirt (fuchsia/ white gingham seersucker) at the store near my workplace. I like it a lot but now I have doubts:
- it's too teen-agerish for me
- enhances my lack of waist.
I took it to office today thinking I will go return it.
What do you say? Please be honest. Thank you!

#1 - the skirt (I would not wear it with these shoes)

#3 - I also threw in today's outfit.

Update: I also see it overwhelms me. I will return. Thank you for looking anyway and comments are welcome.

I see you have made a decision. If it feels overwhelming you are making the right decision. I like today's outfit, simple lines and the colour combination.

Honestly I don't like this type of skirt. I think they are good on tall and thin people and I am not that. If I have dilemma, I return and change for something others.

I agree with Mirjana, the tiers and ruffles on this skirt style flatter only the tall and thin. And they are so prevalent that you can't find a long straight skirt that isn't a satin slip. That's my little rant, and your outfit today is cute and contemporary.

I fell in love with the fabric, the color and the pattern and forgot that the only skirts in which I feel good are long but straight.

Yes, I have to agree that its just too much skirt and rather long too. Funny enough, I tried on a similar black and white gingham skirt recently, and ended up with a similar problem, seemed nicer on the hangar than on me.

I agree that this I a lot of skirt. If you love it, could the length be altered?? Would that help?

I tend to do best in straight skirts, or skirts that taper toward the knee/ankle. It sounds like from your comments above it is similar for you as well. Hopefully you find a skirt you adore!

Good decision. If you love gingham I could see you in a great summer dress that falls just right, or gingham cropped pants, or a crisp button- front shirt.

I do not find it overwhelming, and liked the cute white sneaks with it too. Grounding! You wear it well, Sisi! Needs a white top.

I was going to suggest you style it properly before deciding - assess your feelings then. Decision has been made though! So that part is academic.....

I like it and I think it looks good on you, but I know those kind of skirts can be tricky and often feel frumpy on. I have a tiered dress that I think would look better on someone thinner or at least with a different shape than mine.

I think pairing it with the dark top may not be helping the case for it. I can see why you like it, but also why it’s difficult.
The combination of length, tiers, and gingham make it kind of hard to style, IMHO. If you were more into it, I would suggest pairing it with a chambray shirt or white tee.

Generally Sisi and Lise, my 2 cents:

People do not generally take good photos. The light and proportions are off. Shadows play havoc too. Sooooo, don't be too fast to judge them. Photos lie

Also, when we try a new-to-us look, seeing it in the mirror can be a bit of a shock. Like seeing yourself on video for the first time. It's a bit like an out-of-body experience. Other people are generally more objective. Hence when I am unsure about something new - I ask hubs Greg what he thinks.

ETA: the more pics and videos you take of yourself and of others, the easier and better it becomes!

AND!! People do not see "the flaws" YOU see. You can't be as objective

I'd suggest, especially with this skirt that has movement, to take a video of yourself with the phone. Very easy to do once you position it well (wide windowsills can work well, and provide a natural light source too. Turn the camera to look to selfie mode, press video, walk away and back, turn off video ). I think with a light color top and sandals, the skirt may look entirely different to your eye. It's a very lovely gingham!

I really like the skirt. I would wear it with a light weight white cotton sweater (or sweatshirt?) that was untucked and hit toward the top of the hip. I could see it with a white trapeze shirt as well. Really cute with the tennis shoes.

The skirt is a fun print, but it's always best to go with your gut instinct because if you won't feel good in it, you won't wear it.

As for photos, I take WIWs all the time. Many times I post them, but there's plenty of times when I don't. I like photos to help me see color or fit of an outfit, but a pose and lighting can make a HUGE difference as well. That's why professional photographers are always using tons of lights in their studios and why models are usually at some kind of angled pose in photos, even stock photos for clothing. Photos are helpful but they are only a guide for me, not the final determining factor. My gut feeling while wearing an outfit is the deciding factor.

I aggree with Angie, skirt has potential, esp if you were attracted to it for several reasons, you said-a white top and the sneaks-would have been great to it!
I think here it was the black top which threw everything out of the window- it simply doesn't relate here besides beeing a dark neutral it did erased/shrinked a lot from your top part and so it enhaced even more the biggeness(is that a wordd??uff:-)) of the skirt. So it depends on your willing to make effort to style it properly and if findig a way for it you'll enjoy the primary features of the skirt (for the obviously reasons you purchased it) OR you don't do this effort and go with the guts.
I have had them both in the past-but that was not a big help for you, I know:-)!

Guess what? I found the receipt to return the skirt two days too late (it was on my car) - damn my recklessness ! I will try to style the skirt following your suggestions.
