@Janet sorry I don't have anything that hasn't been mentioned already (Fisherman sandals etc) BUT the third pair of sandals in @Sal's comment (the thin Elke by La Tribe, reposted below) made me do a double take, because I just bought a VERY similarly styled pair of sandals! (The Lisette flatforms by Love Bonito, photo #1 below)
They're a cheaper pleather pair that fit my totally opposite feet to yours (wide forefoot, medium to low arches, instep that swells) with an elasticated back band (no velcro) BUT it sounds like this style of sole might be right up your alley @Janet - a not-too-high flatform with 'refined' treads will give you that 'chunky lug sole' *look* without the risky balance issues. Or am I off the mark lol?
