Update on Shopping List - diversions

In my previous thread I had the following spring/summer shopping list:

I have purchased these items

Sunglasses
funky Work dress
Work/ evening black pants
Shorts
Shoes/ sandals - black sandals from the party/wedding dress thread

I have also decided to keep the pleated party dress!!

While it is not alot of pieces they have been rather expensive additions....but great ones. But it means that I want to keep additional spending down. So I have amended my existing list. It was:

casual lightweight colourful sweater
white or off white tee/top
swimsuit
long sleeve light sun cover up

I rescued a swimsuit from the holding zone, and also a long sleeve kaftan. And I would like to get a bolero for my new party dress. And I have rethought my summer needs:

Black, navy or cream bolero top
New cream and black quality tank/vests to wear with shorts, should also go with new bolero

I want these all to be affordable but the tanks and vests thick enough to wear solo. I will probably hold off on the new sweater - I wanted a clear green or melon colour but there seems to be little of that around this summer.

If I was doing the five piece french wardrobe I would have added in three statement pieces (two dresses, one pair of sandals).

I am writing this thread to show how things evolve - the best laid plans can change when you add new functions to the mix and you come across a dress that you just have to have.

Sally, I am amazed at how well you have thought this out - even if your ideas are evolving. I have a list too but it is so much more general than yours. You have even thought out what colours you want. I wish I was that disciplined! But I do think you have to be a bit flexible. I am probably too flexible

Yes, the best laid plans always end up changing don't they? But, you made some great recent purchase and I'm so glad you kept the fab pleated dress I like how you amended your list and hurray for holding zones eh?

Shopping with a plan sounds very successful. If the plans change, you have a reason. The party dress will have a high happiness factor! Let us know if you find the heavier weight tank tops. I am annoyed by tops so thin they require a cami, it's too hot for that in summer.

Nice planning! However, a plan only works when you can find what's on your list! Temptation strikes most when you are searching and run across some other item that you like and then you can find a way to make use of it even if it wasn't on the original list. I call it rationalization! My husband calls it impulsivity!

Sally, great post and a great reminder to stay focused but patient and flexible. I was so indoctrinated/immersed in Steven Covey's 7 habits in the 90s that I still have the HARDEST time writing a list and not moving heaven and earth to check off everything as quickly as possible. I would have ticked off everything on your list and had no money nor "mental space" left when that fabulous dress came along. Hooray for you!

Thank you Suz, Carter, Helen, Anne, Brooklyn, Staysfit and Diane. I am normally more spontaneous with my shopping but I have spent a lot for me since late September. Two pricey dresses, designer sunglasses, designer trousers (on sale) and mid range shoes. So I am running out of budget!!

A few weeks ago Firecracker wrote about not adding the mediocre, or wearing it. This resonated with me so my focus is only adding quality new pieces. We will see if I stick to it of course
