Upcoming Movies and TV (Not Fashion Related)

So, I know we don't talk too much about stuff other than fashion, but there are some great movies coming out soon, and I just really want to talk about it, because I love going to the movies, and there haven't been any I've wanted to really spend the money to see in a long time.

So, coming up, I want to see "Quantum of Solace," which some of you may have already seen. Brendan and I are going next weekend (last weekend we went to a friend's birthday party instead). Also, I really want to see Australia! It looks so romantic, and I love Hugh Jackman (I really want to name any future male child we might have Hugh, but Brendan isn't wild about the idea, heh). I like Nicole Kidman too. It kind of reminds me of "Far and Away." Do any of you remember that movie? Anyway, Brendan won't go see Australia! with me, so I might see if my Calculus study partner will go with me (she's a sucker for movies like that too).

And I'm going to see "Twilight" with a group of ladies I know through a friend of mine. We're going to dinner before, and then going to the first showing at midnight opening night, lol. I've read all the books, and so has she, and she's in a reading group through her church, and they've all read it as well. I'm not that fanatical (she isn't either), but most of the ladies in the reading group are. It will be a fun and unusual experience, either way.

Also, I tivo a few shows and watch them on Sunday afternoons. I like "Numb3rs" (heh, big surprise), and also "Ghost Whisperer." Do any of you watch that show?

Are any of you planning on seeing any movies coming up? Anything else fun in the works?

I am very excited to see "Quantum of Solace" too Ana! My BF will be visiting over the Turkey Day holidays so we will see it than together. I'd also like to see "Australia", but I doubt i can convince Pete to see it me either. If we lived in the same city we could see it together. I am interested in Twilight too, but am yet to find company to go and see it.

I hardly watch any TV at all. The only show I do not miss is " Dancing with the Stars", I have just finished watching it 40 min ago. The only other thing I watch when it's on is tennis, but the season has just finished so there won't be any till January.

These two are on my list too! Definitely going to see Quantum of Solace next week when my cousin, aka babysitter, is in town. I'm hoping to go & see Australia Thanksgiving weekend with the same cousin because after watching SATC, my husband has had his fill of "chick flicks" for the year. He's looking forward to "Transporter 3" to give you an idea on his taste in movies!

I remember "Far and Away" and that's exactly what I thought of too when I saw the previews for "Australia." Nicole Kidman sounds like she is playing the same character! I love Baz Luhrmann's films - Strictly Ballroom is one of my all time favorites. I highly recommend it!

I'm also intrigued by "Revolutionary Road" starring Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet - I've read the book & it is very sad. The movie version is always disappointing but I do like the idea of seeing these two paired again.

I LOVE "Strictly Ballroom!" And Brendan loves the Transporter movies too, lol.

"Revolutionary Road" looks interesting, and I like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet together as well, they have good chemistry. But it seems really sad and depressing, and I cry at movies. So if I think it will be a tear jerker at all I usually rent it so I don't get embarrassed and cry at the theater. I went and saw "Neverland" with Brendan and another male friend of ours at the theater when it came out, and all three of us were crying!

Strictly Ballroom is awesome! I'm smiling just thinking about it.

I'm counting the days until Wong Kar-Wai's "Ashes of time Redux" hits the theater in my town. I can't wait to see Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung work together again. And Wong Kar Wai is one of my favorite directors.

I'm looking forward to Quantum of Solace, but I'm tempted to wait and watch it on DVD so I can fast forward through action scenes In the meantime, I recommend Daniel Craig's earlier film Layer Cake - it's like his James Bond audition tape.

Wow, I am really really curious about your opinion about the new 007 movie! I seen it last weekend and left cine with the idea that it was the worse Bond movie I ever seen!
Frankly, reminded me of the 12-13 year old computer game for the boys. Too much computer upgrade, lack of famous "bond language" which always was giving so much tastes to these movies. The action moment were so fast, of course due to the computer manipulation, that you could hardly realize who is running away and who is chasing.
The plot is thin, the girls are wooden and the humor doubtful. Thank God Daniel Craig was there but it's too little to me for 2 hours.....or am I just getting old?
Curious of your impression ladies!

"Australia" premiered here in Australia today and was a big news item. I definitely want to see it. They are saying it is an epic and will have something for everyone - drama, comedy and tragedy.
Plus you will all get to be much more informed about our country! (probably we will get informed too!)

I am definitely looking forward to seeing Quantum of Solace. I like Daniel Craig as the new 007. Today I think we are going to rent Tropic Thunder and Wall-E.

Australia reminded me of Far and Away as well.

As for TV, I love Lost, but that will not be on until next year. But in the meantime, I watch My Own Worst Enemy and Life. I do watch reality shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance when they are on.

Also, I love the Food Network, but my husband hates it, so I watch it when he's not around.

Violet, Wall-E has been my favorite movie so far this year. I love Pixar! We don't have any kids but we own most of the Pixar movies anyway.
I saw Quantum of Solace this past weekend. I'm a huge James Bond fan, and I actually like Daniel Craig in the role, though still behind Sean Connery. It was not nearly as good as Casino Royale, though. My husband likened Q of S to the second Bourne movie. It can't stand on its own, but it's necessary "glue" since they are surely going to make more Bond movies. It wasn't my favorite movie ever, but if you are a 007 fan, you have to see it.
I'm also a Lost fan! Other than that, I pretty much only watch football or Law and Order re-runs.

They were just talking about Australia on NPR yesterday. Now I'm confused because I thought it was Angelina Jolie in the movie, not Nicole. Anyway, they said the director actually shot 3 different endings for the movie which is highly unusual. They didn't say what the ending was but they said what it wasn't. I won't spoil it.

Hi Lena, another fan of Wong Kar-Wai here. Unfortunately, since having kids I haven't been going to the movies much, and it would be nice to see Ashes of Time on a big screen. And I adore Tony Leung - he is the only movie star that makes me swoon
I haven't seen My Blueberry Nights though. Did you like it?

Hi Marianne. Unfortunately I haven't seen My Blueberry Nights. I should really get around to it, I don't want to forfeit my Wong Kar-Wai fangirl card I missed it on the big screen (it came and went really fast) and I'm postponing restarting my Netflix membership, so I put it on hold at the public library. For what it's worth, I remember skimming reviews by people who are fans of Wong Kar-Wai's work and most of them seemed to like it.

And yes, Tony Leung makes me swoon as well! Btw, I just rewatched Chungking Express last week Have you seen him in Infernal Affaris? (Martin Scorsese's The Departed is based on this film)

Lena, Chungking Express is one of my favorites. Yes, I liked Infernal Affairs. I actually haven't seen the Scorsese's version. I also like him a lot in Hou's "Flowers or Shanghai", have you seen it?

I couldn't objectively evaluate The Departed because my opinion was totally biased towards Infernal Affairs. And I was thinking about Tony Leung most of the time.

I saw the new James Bond last week. I adore Daniel Craig. He is SO intense and effortlessly arrogant. My favourite Bond boy by far. His Russian Bond lady is breath taking. But the story line is weak. Casino Royale was much better in my opinion. But you have to see it. How can you not!
