Uniqlo Vests in Vending Machines

I just saw news story that Uniqlo’s vests are a top seller at a vending machine at SFO (San Francisco International airport). I guess this is because tourists arrive expecting San Francisco to be hot and then freeze as they walk through the terminals. I am sure that it helps that they come with tiny stuff sacks.

Brilliant.

Really for maximum effectiveness they should have the vending machine outside at the curb, or in a BART station in the city - hard to tell how freezing it is until you leave the airport! (Today I wore a sweater, full length jeans, and a fall weight velvet jacket, and wished I'd grabbed my Uniqlo puffer jacket instead.)

So interesting - I just got back from a trip to Tokyo and was amazed by the vending machine culture, and also visited the flagship Uniqlo on the Ginza. I think it was 12 stories of merchandise.

I used to share season tickets to the SF Giants at Candlestick Park. We could always tell who the tourist were - no locals show up for a night game in the summer in anything but many layers. They used to give a pin out to fans who stayed to the bitter end for extra innings games - it had an SF Giants logo encrusted in icicles.

That’s hilarious. Greyscale is right, SFO is actually in Burlingame, south of the city, so you don’t really start freezing until you get north of the Mission.

My phone says San Francisco is 53 degrees right now at 10 a.m. so I'll bet a lot of tourists are freezing. Actually, I've seen quite a few in the past buying jackets at the Uniqlo store which is a block above the cable car turnaround.

What a great idea! People say the way they know who are tourists in sf is theyre wearing the same sweatshirt, because they thought it would be warmer!

I love Uniqlo products, so functional and well designed. This is definitely one vending machine that I would enjoy buying from, although the Tiffany vending machine is pretty cool too.

I love this idea although wish they would add the full puffers, too, because - well - arms. I just boarded a cross-county flight in LA in a tee shirt and without a wrap and I’d kill for a Uniqlo vending machine right now.

My local NPR station did a little story about it but they were talking about the uniform of the tech employees, culture and how the vest seem to fit that demographic. it is the gateway to Silicon Valley Hahaha
