Uniqlo pieces and questions .

Has anyone seen or can vouch for either of these two pieces ? I’ve never ordered nor seen a Uniqlo piece in the real world - but would like to try both or either of these . I’m not bothered by the coat being unlined- but don’t want to waste ordering and waiting for something of just so-so quality .

Are these sweaters decent too ?

These looks really nice! I've had good luck at Uniqlo - the price/quality ratio is generally great and I find their straight cut pieces fit particularly nicely (I haven't had a jacket mind you). My only word of caution is that I do find their wool pieces rather itchy ... but that might just be a 'me' thing; if you're not generally sensitive about that, then they are probably not worse than other places. The fit of them seems good to me though! Also I tend to have to size up there.

I have mostly gotten sporty items from Uniqlo.

I haven’t found any regular wool , “ lambs wool” sweaters I can wear next to skin, so I never order any items I’d wear directly like a pullover . So I stick to merino knits or cashmere and of course even some cashmere can be too itchy. But can’t really speak to this particular product or also if you wear a full LS underlayer. As in, Canada!

Ha , unfrumped ! I would perish with anything under a wool sweater :). I don’t care for merino but do enjoy cashmere and lambswool . It’s more the fit ( I want loose and slouchy and not fitted ) and overall quality I’m concerned about .

I have been a huge fan of their light down vests and jackets and have always found the quality good. I also ordered their merino sweaters last winter and was suitably impressed good quality and colour.
Anything that doesn't work, was easily retuned making this a why not try?

I find their items to be utilitarian but not luxe, if you know what I mean. They seem to be hard wearing and look decent but don't have a luxe drape or feel (not that you would expect them to at that price point, but for me that's an important part of my look, so I'm mentioning it here.)

So it depends what you want. If it's everyday items you can be a it hard on, then they might be perfect for you.

One thing I just remembered ... they do charge a re-stocking fee if I'm not mistaken; I feel like I got dinged on that once. It wasn't huge, but it was super-annoying. Perhaps they've changed it but worth a double-check.

I would agree with Roxanna on the “ vibe”. I would generally look to other brands for luxe or polish. But of course it varies and you could do “ retail research “. If there’s just the return shipping fee and no individual re- stock especially, plus I can’t remember the return window. . Because I have needed to branch out & try new- to - me brands but tend to put it off because of returns hassle.

Hmm . Good points here , thank you . I’ll have to look further into the return policy . Less concerned about the sweater looking luxe ( after all , it’s only $70 ) but I won’t buy a cheap looking coat .

I have seen these sweaters in person and I thought they looked pretty good, but I’ve never actually tried them on so I can’t speak to how they fit.They do seem like a classic pullover sweater though.

I find Uniqlo items to be fairly decent quality and I think these sweaters are definitely going to be nicer than what you might find at Old Navy or H&M etc.. I have these on my radar as well because I’m looking for a replacement everyday sweater for winter.

I've been happy with my down jacket and the 100% wool sweaters I've bought in the past. The coat you are considering is only 37% wool. I'd probably try a secondhand, 100% wool coat before buying a blend. I got a good deal on a couple of new wool coats from a Scottish company, House of Bruar last year. They were a similar price to the Uniqlo coat you are considering.

I buy a lot from Uniqlo, and am a big booster of their products, but you do have to be picky.

I’ve not seen the coat you referenced, but I like the simple styling and cut. That said, I would not buy a wool coat that had less than 60% wool from Uniqlo or any other brand. I’ve bought a number of coats from Uniqlo over the years, and had the best luck sticking with the brand’s Uniqlo U line (specifically created by design director Christophe Lemaire), or from various collaborations with designers like Jil Sander.

I’ve never tried their lambswool sweaters since I prefer their lightweight merino, but have seen them, and they look somewhat shapeless, and the neckline looks sloppy (in the crewnecks).

I can’t vouch for the lambswool, but the ‘Extra Fine Merino Crew Neck Sweater’ is great quality - not too thick, not too thin. 14 wears and a couple of times through the wash (delicate cycle) and no pills. I wear it next to my body. Soft. TTS. (Check my UK travel pics for what it looks like on a real body.)

I don’t love everything I see at Uniqlo, and agree with Kate about Uniqlo U and the colabs. I always check out their Ines de La Fresange colab. Also agree with Kate about a coat with less than 70% wool.

PS: are you sure you want loose and slouchy? It seems to me you feel less than fab in oversized looks.

I think Uniqlo's quality is generally better than other fast fashion stores, and have had luck thrifting my husband and son some of their sweaters, and other miscellaneous pieces, which have worn and washed well. I also have picked up a few +J pieces over time and like them.

Hi Jaime - I did see it posted somewhere today and read that it’s expected to sell out immediately . I hate competitive shopping ! But maybe I’ll set a reminder to see what’s available in Canada that day

Thanks for the heads up re the coat wool content . This is why I’m such a terrible online shopper - didn’t even notice that .

Carla - I don’t mind oversize in a sweater , especially for one worn casually . And this isn’t described as oversize , per se. I just don’t wear classically cut sweaters as they never fit me properly. As I’ve previously mentioned , I’m not a fan of merino wool . But if the right silhouette ever presented itself , which it never does , Id be open to trying again .

Thanks for this feedback everyone - it’s been very helpful and I’m not going to order either piece .

My son wears about 90% Uniqlo and it looks amazing on him - a tall slim but muscular body... so let's face it, everything looks good on him. For wash and wear clothing that looks smart and is hard wearing, Uniqlo is fabulous.

For me, I find most of their cuts unflattering because my body is more rounded. I have some t shirts, AIRism gear and summer tops which have been good and have had a cashmere knit which was lovely and soft. Whilst I am a fan of Uniqlo, for me it is like Zara in as much that when something works, it is great value, but most items are not for me, either in fit, colour or styling (they have a lot of greyed, autumnal and dusty colours which look terrible on me).

The colabs are interesting and can give rise to spectacular items. The upcoming Uniqlo C line with Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy is worth consideration.

In my experience, if the merchandise and colours are appealing, Uniqlo is always worth a look for something generally simple and good. The collabs are more exciting, especially if you fancy the design house!

Quality is great for the price!

I agree with Bijou. Cuts work well on straighter figures, but they are not cut small and narrow as you might expect. Just straight! Male clients do particularly well at Uniqlo. Sons of friends too.

I keep trying to support the brand. I love Japanese things! We have a brand new GORGEOUS Uniqlo that opened up the road, and I enjoy browsing there. So far, fits, cuts, and colours are not quite right for me. I head to J.Crew and Boden for the same type of offering and that works better for my style.

I have had more luck with menswear there for my husband and subs than for me.

But there’s not a local store - I have sheets been on vacation which is a different type of shopping.

Below are my Uniqlo items. Cuts for tops tend to be boxy in my experience. Pants inseams are too short for me. The stores are a pleasure to visit and I love how the merch is displayed on the mannequins.

@ Jaime - thanks for the ‘heads up’ about the upcoming colab. I’ve been wondering what CWK has been up to since leaving Givenchy.
