Oh I'm so glad someone posted this! Saw it yesterday and was wondering how to mention it delicately.
Rick Owens has done incredible things on the catwalk in the past - you might remember the fierce dance troupe from his SS2014 show. He's one of the few designers still committed to pushing boundaries in haute couture when everyone else is crumbling under the pressure of delivering a new collection every three months.
I don't think this was done simply for the shock value. Menswear is very much at the forefront of what's left of the avant-garde now, with many designers exploring ideas of sexuality and gender identity. It may be distasteful to some, but female nudity has been up for grabs in Western art since time immemorial, and turning the tables like this is a very powerful statement. It doesn't happen often enough in my opinion.
I'm still processing this, but I have a feeling this is going to be a tipping point of some kind. But don't worry, I don't think it's going to catch on. Except perhaps in certain kinds of nightclubs.
