Well, I decided to go ahead and take the plunge and get my hair cut today. I don't think it looks bad, but OMG, it is soooo much shorter than what I wanted. I'm not sure how it happened, since I showed the stylist exactly where I wanted it to fall, but somehow my collar-bone-length has turned into straight-up collar.

Ah, well, at least my hair grows fairly fast...

Your hair looks great! I like the sideswept fringe. Can you still pull it back if you want to? I think you said that you wanted to be able to do that. My stylist cut mine too short to pull back after I said I wanted to be able to, but I've kept it the shorter length because I can't pull it back. It forces me to wear it down, which seems to be more flattering and less severe. You may find that you like it.

I can pull it back, barely, but only very low on the neck. I'm used to putting my hair up in various ways so I think it is going to be a bit of a challenge to figure out what to do with it! It will be interesting to see how it looks when I let it dry curly...

I think it looks great! You have good hair - nice and thick and a color I have spent a lot of money trying to achieve But if you really don't like it, it'll be collarbone length by Christmas.

It looks great! Freshly-cut hair also tends to "jump," if you know what I mean. Give it a couple of days to settle.

I think it is a really nice cut for you. Sometimes it just takes a day or two to get used to the change.

Oh yes, this always happens. Hairdressers often seem to make the haircut several inches shorter than what the client had in mind.

But not to worry -- it looks fantastic! I think I prefer the length you have to collarbone-length. And it's true, in a couple of months it will be about as long as you had in mind. That's the great thing about hair. It grows back (unlike teeth...)

I really like this length. This happened to DD when she went in for a hair cut. I think her natural wave made it look shorter than planned.

Ah, you got lucky, because it looks great even though it isn't what you wanted. My friend once had a colorist turn her hair bright orange... yikes!

Pretty hair! Gorgeous color and texture, too. Your hair may actually be collarbone length if it is soaking wet and stretched down -- which is how hairdressers think. Of course, the rest of us envision the length as how it will look dry and sprung up! It is a flattering modern length on you.

Ugh...my sympathies, Mander. That's always such a frustrating experience. My last trip to the salon went exactly the same way, but I wound up being pleasantly surprised at how the new cut worked out maintenance-wise...it was so easy to handle! I hope yours winds up with a silver lining too.

It looks really nice! I understand the concern with wavy/curly hair though. Sometimes when my hair is shorter and I let it air dry, it gets an unfortunate fullness down around the lower half of my face, where I don't want it. Or a weird pouf at ear height.

But this looks great on you. And as Elisabeth said, hair grows! If it turns out to not be your favorite cut, it will change soon enough.

Lots of great suggestions on what to do with wavy/curly hair. It can be overwhelming, though. I've been doing the curly girl (CG) routine for years and my hair looks so much better than it used to.

Im sorry you're not happy, but truly, it looks wonderful on you! Really shows off your beautiful cheekbones and pretty eyes...the only thing I dont like is the sad look in them I think it's a very flattering cut and I love the color
