UK Travel Capsule and Outdoor Concert - what to wear?

Hi all. Great news. Hubby and I are planning a trip to Scotland with London being our last stop for the Cure's 40th Anniversary Concert in Hyde Park the weekend after July 4th. Although it's an outdoor festival, we will be in the VIP section so that mean more of an older crowd and not out with the large crowd. Because of weather concerns, I want to be well prepared but also want to have that "cool" look too. I'm thinking of an adult version of goth, but more modern goth than romantic. Does that make sense?

We will be gone for 9 days, 2 of which will be spent on travel, 4 days in Scotland (Edinburgh and possibly Glasgow), and 3 days in London.

Any suggestions? Capsule Photos? Pinterest Pins? I'm trying to pack as lightly as I can and have decent shoes.

Wow!! So much fun! This is fabulous. I know you are going to look spectacular.

For Scotland, even though it is summer, it could be much chillier than you are used to, so some layers/ sweaters/ a trench. Maybe a leather jacket? (But also be prepared for rain).

I am not sure what to suggest for a concert outfit and eagerly await ideas from others.

@Suz - thanks for your input. I had a feeling it will quite chilly. I hate to pack for cold weather especially when it will be in the 90's here (35-40s C). Hence, why I need to pack lightly.

For the potentially cold and wet weather (may be inevitable) I would pack a Uniqlo puffy thing that packs tightly small, light waterproof that has a hood and an umbrella. The weather can be quite varied. Mosquito repellent may be needed for Scotland.

Sounds like it will be a great trip.

Scotland in late June will be lovely... but not hot. 70's. You'll want layers, and crops or full length pants. You might be able to wear shorts, but you won't need them. You won't need sandals. You WILL need a raincoat... and a good one. Scottish rain knows how to find its way through pretty much anything.

The south (London) can be much warmer.

No concert ideas, but what a fun thing to do!

@rachylou - yeah, I guess the Cure has been around for quite some time.

@Jane and @Elizabeth P - thanks for the info. I'll definitely prep myself for the wet weather. I don't wear shorts (except on a beach) so not taking any with me. I'm thinking jeans and pants and lots of tops.

@Greyscale - Goth is dead here, at least in my head! I guess I'll probably dress all in back (possibly black jeans, black shirt, black boots, and a jacket of some sort depending on the weather),

No thoughts on wardrobe for Scotland as I have never been but it’s on the bucket list.
We were in Ireland and London 2 years ago about the same time as you will be there and it was extremely hot - locals said it was unusually hot for those first few days then it got real chilly and rainy. Felt I was on a weather roller coaster. Glad I over packed (as usual) because I like to be prepared for it all. I am the type that if I am too hot or freezing I can’t enjoy easily. Light weight raincoat with hood was great as I had to loan my DD my umbrella- lol. Btw - even over packing - it was a carry on and flight bag for 2 travel and 7 days of fun between both countries.
Comfy footwear is must naturally and for concert I suggest you bring an old scarf that you don’t mind wrecking because you may need to sit on it at some point depending on how vip the vip set up is.
Have a fantastic time- I will be living vicariously through you!

I'm in Ireland now, and was in Scotland last week A long way from home for an Aussie!
We found Scotland significantly colder than either London or Ireland - it was a bit colder according to the weather forecast, but it really "felt" much much colder! We did have snow last week in Scotland, too, which you won't have in July! But I would pack at least one decent jacket - everyone is still in puffers and beanies, not just the Australians

Several years ago we were in Scotland for about two weeks, in August. It rained every day but one. That one day was glorious! I didn’t think it was very cold. I wore my rain jacket with a thin sweater every day.

Well, if you wanted to make a statement at the Cure concert, you could wear a form fitting black sweater with some heavily distressed acid wash jeans with fishnets or black tights underneath. Maybe a newsboy cap, pink. Or plaid, but that could be risky in Scotland.

Thanks for all your input. I'll make sure to keep an eye out on the weather and pack accordingly. I remember going to London one Summer 15 years ago and froze my bum off. It was much cooler than the warm humid Summers of the east coast U.S. and ended up having to buy a sweater from a Bennetton.

@Carol - I don't own a pair of acid washed jeans, so I'll just stick my basic black skinny jeans and a black top. Can't go wrong with the black after all.

Jeans and pants and lots of tops I would say is perfect. I would absolutely agree on the potential for it to be cold, wet and drissly. (Just thinking that if it is wet then the footwear to the concert needs to be mud proof / cleanable).

You will need some Doc Martens surely. And a big woolly (?red) tartan scarf with the all black outfit.

@torontogirl - black is always the best bet.

@Jane and @jussie - I have an old pair of wedge doc martens but not sure if it will be comfy for an all day concert although great for a potential wet day. I'll have to figure out what shoes to take with me.

Honestly, the weather can be nasty - and are you outside? Goth sounds good for the concert.

Make sure you bring many pairs of comfy shoes and wrap up.
