Uh-oh, headed to Frumpsville?

I returned some stuff at Nordstrom and was inexplicably smitten with this James Perse dress:

which is nothing more than a really long comfy sweatshirt. I will post a picture when I can, but tell me, is it frumpy by definition? It is longer on me than the model.

I don't think so. I also think it is good for IT's--shoulders help carry it off. I would like it longer than shown, too.

I agree with unfrumped. That shape is perfect for us ITs. Not frumpy at all because you are going to be wearing it with rocking sandals or boots (I know you will!). You are going to love it.

Eh, I tried on a James Perse sweatshirt dress and promptly returned it. Much as I like volume, it wasn't flattering on me. Hope it will work better for you, since it sure was comfy!

There is no way you can look frumpy. Frumpy has no edge or creativity. However you wore this dress would be miles from frumpy.

Won't know if it is frumpy or ot u til you try it on. :). It could be, or it could be fab, really depends on its fit and how you style it.

It looks pretty cute....Would look good with tights, a scarf, possibly a hip belt.

Thanks for the feedback! Anna, I thought this was priced better than some of their flimsier stuff that is just as much $, but you are right. The SA told me I could return it if it shrunk or warped in the wash.

I'm definitely thinking boots or chunky heels... Will post some pics.

Would be frumpy town on me. Sexy on sporty Jennifer Anniston. Probably frump on most people.

When you try it, if it feels like a project to defrump it with lots of edgy or form-making stuff, ask yourself if it's worth it.

If this piece with little effort will add cool, class, edge, whatever your word is to your look and other pieces, great.

If you have to try to work those qualities on to it, I would pass. Hard enough to work on what's already not quite right in our closets, no? Why add to the pile of "I can make it work if I just..."?

The proof is in the pudding.

I do like Pawprints comment --determine if it's a great "blank canvas" and feels easy and go-everywhere, or if it's an accessory-sucking drain/pain.

I just hope that *artfully faded* doesn't mean that it looks like a tired knit you picked up at Goodwill! But seriously, I think this will look great on you. It is very plain, but I think your footwear and jacket collections will take care of that as I know you're not an accessory person.

I like it. I have a knit dress from Target just like it. It makes a great base layer to which you can add vest or jacket. Mine was Converse or something and was a lil' cheaper

I think it's fitted enough that it won't look frumpy. I like it too, it looks like it would be a real easy MOTG dress. A belt, boots, scarf...all sorts of ways to dress it up.

Agree that for your style, with your accessories, this will be anything but frumpy. I'm thinking it will have stealth comfort, with palpable edge. Glad you are trying it out.

No, it doesn't shrink. It's fabulous. I wear it over black leggings with boots and a scarf. It's like wearing a sweatshirt dress in the perfect drapey soft material.

I saw an Asian lady wearing a dress like this a couple of years ago and it looked SOO good on her that I have often thought I'd like one. I think this was before Angie blogged about the whole upmarket sweatshirt trend. I say go for it (on this trend anyway, obviously here in Australia I don't know anything about this particular brand)
