I like the scotties, and figure itll fit the theme enough! You could always wear a santa hat or such too (walmart has some tacky headbands). My office is doing one too, and my version is going to be jue too!

I see both a Scottie dog and a squirrel (facing in the opposite direction)

just in case anyone reading this is still in need of a Xmas sweater....always check out your local goodwill/ salvation army/thrift store....and then recycle it the same way!

I don’t think it’s ugly! I like that Scotties on it. Meaningful

Suntiger, that’s a good idea - we have a Santa hat laying around.

BJ1111, hmmm, I’m not seeing the squirrel. I’ll look some more.

Kkards, some here might remember that I volunteer at a thrift store. We save up things, such as (ugly) Christmas sweaters, and put them out in the right season. Since ugly Christmas sweaters are a thing now, they flew out the door a month ago.

Angie, the party is tomorrow. At this point, all I can do is try to “decorate” it to make it look tackier.

It isn't ugly, but it will be fine - it tells your hosts you are supporting their theme. Have a great time!

It's not ugly, but it's festive so you will fit in. I agree with recommendation for adding something to make it over the top.

We keep a box of christmas things for our town's annual holiday parade. Reindeer antler headband, a really long santa hat, a grinch t-shirt, earrings shaped like presents... they only get used once a year, but they are critical when needed!

Have a great time at the party!

I think the sweater is kind of cute and not ugly, but I think it is enough that you will fit in. I would add a Santa hat if you have one (I think maybe someone mentioned that already) or something else to make the outfit tacky.

I think this is really ridiculous, making people spend money on stuff that they find ugly. And so often, those sweaters will be really cheap, which means that the workers who actually made the sweater probably got peanuts for it. It would be better to have a party where everyone was asked to make a $20 donation to a charity of their choice rather than buy a sweater for the same amount.

I talked to the hostess. Actually, we were delivering a meal to a church family. She said the sweater sounded cute, and several people said they didn’t have ugly sweaters so don’t worry about it!

Karen, thank you. The sweater isn’t really my taste, but I can tough it out for a party.

Gretchen, your stash of Christmas things sound great!

Gigi, I totally agree with you! My husband’s office party has adopted the local homeless youth drop in center, asking for things they’ve requested - boxer shorts, socks, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.

The men we saw at the ugly Chrisrmas sweater party mostly wore garish sport jackets with plaid flannel shirts in clashing colors and some added Cristmas ties and socks. They were so funny strutting their stuff.

Joy, that sounds great, actually. At my husband’s office party he would always wear a Christmas bow tie (with candy canes) and Christmas socks. This party we’re invited to has always been festive casual. One man would always wear a Stewart plaid sport coat. It’s really great looking.

I had been planning to wear Old Navy Stewart plaid leggings with a navy tunic sweater. But now I’ll wear the scottie sweater and some kind of pants.

Not ugly. Actually very cute. Vintage stores often have Christmas type sweaters that might work. They seem to be popular with University students around here.

That's more kitschy to me.

This is ugly to me (one of the Walmart ones)

Style Fan, I have a few vintage Norwegian sweaters. They are wool, hand knit, and traditional patterns. Definitely not ugly! This one is not like them at all.

Cindy, ewww, that one reminds me of the movie Alien! I think you hit the nail on the head - this one is kitschy.

Yeah the sweater is cute not ugly. You can put a bunch of pins on it and maybe accessorize by wearing some christmas lights as a necklace.

This is entirely cheating, JAileen. Go for it!

Alicewonderland, yes, I think this one is bad enough and festive enough (without having a T Rex in a Santa hat) to fit the theme of the party.

Rachy, I don’t consider this sweater cheating. However, I’ve been really surprised by how many people think it’s cute!

I don’t think the sweater is ugly...just not your usual style. I wouldn’t fret about it. Go to the party and have fun!
We have a “seasonal sweater” day at work. We don’t call the sweaters ugly, because we work with kids and the gaudier the sweaters, the more the kids love them. This year we are going to have a
Seasonal Sweater Fashion Show. Hahaha!

ML, thank you. Your fashion show sounds like fun. I hope you post a picture.

The party was yesterday. Most people were not wearing ugly sweaters. The hosts were wearing cute ugly sweaters. Both were kind of elf looking, with long pointed hoods. There were three more people wearing ugly Christmas sweaters, I think. I’ve never seen a group ignore a party invitation like this before! Several people came up and complimented my sweater. I had a fun time, and felt appropriate for the occasion.

Great! It all worked out then. Had better keep the sweater in the dress-ups!

Goodness, that will be the last ugly jumper party I hope!

Jenni, yes, I’ll hang onto it. I should put these things together like you did.

Jane, this one turned out *not* to be an ugly sweater party, after all!

We’re watching last Saturday’s Saturday Night Live, and look - there’s my sweater!

I SAW it on SNL! SUBLIME.

Funny, I thought this all stemmed from someone getting ironic about (stereotypes ahead, but based on contact with my American cousins) the sincere Christmas sweaters that some middle aged American women were wearing maybe 20 years ago? As a Canadian I was never aware if the original trend hit Canada, but the ironic version has definitely come around hard this year for my 13 yo. She was told she could buy new at Value Village (a for-profit second hand store that also stocks new Halloween stuff).

I am frankly pretty annoyed at any trend that encourages yet more pointless consumerism, so I was glad when she found instead a used, truly-not-ironically ugly, acrylic patterned sweater, no embellishments or humour, just cheap and nasty. And actually pre-used rather than a new version made to be ironic (rolling my eyes very hard now...)

Jules, I always thought it was ironic wearing of Norwegian and Fair Isle -style sweaters, the really nice ones that were very out of style when it began. The idea that sweaters are now being made explicitly to be ugly and rarely worn seems really sick to me. For ugly sweater day at school last year, my son just wore one of my older sweaters. It was very out of style, he felt goofy in it (& his mama thought he looked great). No money spent nor other resources wasted.I agree with you that irony as a consumer good is very odd.

Angie, wasn’t that amazing!

Jules, Fashintern, as I said, I never thought I would be invited to an ugly sweater party. My son, a millenial, was, a few years ago. He wanted to borrow one of my traditional hand knit Norwegian sweaters. I told him NO WAY - they’re not ugly! I don’t remember what he wore. I think these traditional sweaters are not just beautiful, but gorgeous. That might be because I’m a knitter and can really appreciate the beauty of the design, materials, and execution.

AMAZING. Matt Damon was a fabulous host.

I really enjoyed him. Too bad he’s not a regular.
