I ordered 4 pairs of shoes from 6pm, forgetting that not only do they not do free returns they don't even give you a return label that they charge you for. Nw I've got three pairs of shoes to return and I've got to package them up myself. Thank goodness they fit in one of the original boxes (they sent my order in two shipments) otherwise I'd be totally aggravated.

On the plus side, the one pair I'm keeping is a HEWI for me, a pair of nude low heels in a non patent, and I got them for 30 bucks. Guess that's worth a little annoyance.

I feel your pain. The no-return-label thing is what annoys me most about 6pm and why I rarely order from them (especially not shoes, which are heavy). Having to pay a return fee I understand, although it prevents me from making random small purchases (which might be a good thing!), but having to arrange everything myself makes me crabby. Besides, large companies (Iincluding Zappos, 6pm's parent company, I am sure) get FAR better rates on shipping than individuals do, hence why prepaid return shipping fees are generally less than what you or I would pay at the post office.

Thank you for letting us know they do not do free returns. I just placed my first 6pm order this week. Way to go on the HEWI nude pumps. Great price.

I ordered two pairs of sandals and a pair of shorts for working out. The sandals may not be fashion forward but I have been eyeing them (especially the Carlos Santana pair) for a while. They fit with my lifestyle.

ETA: Hopefully the shoes will fit. I have an easy to fit foot and I have worn both brands I have on order. Not sure about the shorts but hopefully they will work.

Diana, exactly - I think it's Ann Taylor that gives you returns for $6.95 a pop, which is less than you would end up spending yourself to return most things, unless they are super light. Plus it's already arranged and you can just drop it off rather than having to get to the PO.

Fastkat, your choices are cute - hope they work out. 6pm often has lower prices than zappos, which is why I buy from thm on occasion, but they're usually comparable to DSW, which if it doesn't work out I can return to my local store.

Honestly, this is one of the main reasons I don't order from them. Shoes are just too hit or miss. And as Diana said, companies get much better rates than individuals do, especially as 6.pm is owned by Zappos who is owned by Amazon. C'mon, how much more buying power can one company get!

I know it would be a change in their business operations but they're missing a revenue stream here. You know to Thistle's point they're not paying the amount they charge us back for the return shipping .. Maybe someday?

Very aggravating, indeed. The shoes 6pm carries are usually a season or 2 old. I tend to stalk stuff on there that I have previously tried on elsewhere. I ordered the leopard print Okalas from them after I had tried on a different pair of Okalas at Nordies. I tend not to order anything that I'm not sure about the size. That return policy stinks.

I've ordered shoes from 6pm.com, but didn't take any real risks as I bought brands I am familar with like Birkies and Keds...

I ordered from brands I know, and they still didn't work - one pair of sandals were too long and my toes hung weirdly back from the edge of the shoe; the other two pairs fit fine, I just didn't like how they looked in person. One pair was called 'platinum' and yet the color was gold. Argh!

Ok, I promise I'll let this go now...maybe.

Laura, I just packed my JCrew return and I have the same pet peeve with them: they do not provide labels and generally no free returns so it is an expensive pain (I think their policy is better in US but for us poor Canadians it is really bad). At least with 6pm you get good bargains if something works out but JCrew is pretty darn expensive for a policy like this!

Um, I once ordered a very expensive pair of boots from a Canadian online retailer, ssense. It cost me nearly $50 to return them insured.

Ugh, annagybe, that's a lot to have to spend. Sveta, I always feel bad when I complain about shipping or returns when you poor Canadians have it so much worse! I'm amazed that J Crew doesn't at least provide a label in Canada, even if they charge something for it.

On the positive side, I also ordered several things at Asos, and they provided free shipping and returns even though the orders are coming from the UK. Not sure how they make that work with their low prices, but it sure was handy (since I ended up returning everything except one item).

Laura - I just ordred a pair of aquatalia booties from them at 50% off. They were almost $40 cheaper than zappos who had them on sale - amazon and nordies still full price. Even it they dont work out, I felt for that kinds of potential saviings even with the possible aggravation it was worth the chance. I usually use zappos and amazon prime since UPS picks up at my office but the opportunity to save was more than I could justify. At least that's how I zen through the aggravation of the potential return!

I LOVE 6pm. I have saved mega bucks over the years by buying from them. They usually have rock bottom prices. The same shoes will often be offered on Amazon and/or Zappos at a significantly higher price point, as gryffin pointed out on her recent order. I think it is important to remember that no shipping and returns are truly "free" -- it has to be accounted for somewhere in their pricing structure profit and loss formula. Someone is surely paying to cover these operation/overhead costs and it is the customers whether it is obvious or not in their online marketing.

Laura, I'm glad you got your HEWI at a great price. The occasional home run from 6pm.com keeps me checking the site, although so far I've ordered only during their one - day sales. I bought multiple pairs of shoes dirt cheap twice last year and passed several rejects on to friends, a pair of fun pewter oxfords to a school clothing drive. I didn't mail any back. My best purchase is a "last pair" of Oh! shoes, regularly $175, for $35. Wonderful quality.
I love that many of the shoes can be seen modeled in a video. Sometimes the video makes me like a shoe more. Often it shows flower pot effect or poorly positioned straps.

Laura, you can print out a mailing label AND request a package pickup at http://www.usps.com. Plus it's a tiny bit cheaper than if you went to the post office.

yup, i bought a pair of shoes from them that i like, but dont love. and now i'm trying to decide if its worth it to return them, since they were only $25
