Um... what? Sounds like an excuse to me. Women will always want to keep their legs dry in winter and fall. Period. That means boots... the fact that they aren't making appealing boots doesn't mean that all boots are out of fashion, sheesh!

As far as rugged boots go, I think their problem is that the designs aren't as interesting or trendy as, say, Timberland, Frye, or even Born. They used to rely on the It Boot style status, but now they need to get the creativity going.

I guess one can only buy so many slippers. All of the scolding finally took a toll, I bet. In the interest of full disclosure, I do have a pair of Uggs, the ugly kind and I wear them too, to go around the neighborhood in cold days.

They are ugly, but they are very useful. The problem is, they are priced more than anyone wants to pay, so most wear knock-offs.

I think the problem lies in the fact that Uggs is known for it's "slipper boot" look - which is it's bread and butter. It has been knocked off at half the price and the market is saturated.

Ugg actually makes extremely fab NON-SLIPPER boots which are of high quality, comfortable and very attractive. But their branding has them stuck with the slipper boot. It's sad. Hardly anyone knows about their other boot styles.

Boots, go out of style?? Humph! I challenge anyone to come take away my boots!!

I must admit that I've never looked at Ugg's non-slipper boots, probably because the slipper boot thing really turned me off to the branding.

I agree Angie, they're non-slipper boots are fantastic. I'll be very sad when my Ugg lug soled shearling lined waterproof moto boots die. I predict it will be this season. I wore them hard for three years.

My husband has a pair of moto Uggs that are fabulous! They look nothing like the slipper Uggs and keep his feet toasty on even the coldest days. I'm a big fan too, even though you'll never see me in slipper boots.

Aida, I think that the article was referring to the Ugg-slipper-boot going out of style.

Anna, I wish you a good last season with your Uggs. I have many happy clients in casual killer non-slipper boot style Uggs. I hope Ugg continues to make boots along that style integrity.

I had some great looking Ugg boots (the very light tan perforated suede ones from NAS about 4 years ago, if anyone remembers) that I loved. Sadly, the leather tore apart after about 6 wears. I've admired their other non-slipper boots, but when pricey pieces die on me like that I refuse to gamble on the brand ever again (see also: Miz Mooz). From Angie's comment, though, it sounds like my experience may not have been the norm.

I'm going to fess up too. I've got slipper boot Uggs, and I think they're adorable, if a bit juvenile. I don't wear them much outside the house, though, because they're useless in the wet, they get dirty easily, and they're too hot when it's sunny out. Plus I have so many other pairs of much more stylish boots that look like they actually belong to a grownup. So mostly I wear them as slippers around the house in the winter. But I don't know why they get so much hate -- I think they're cute, when worn the way they should be worn (over skinny jeans or leggings, with a tunic). The poufiness adds volume to my lower leg, which often balances things out with a tunic and tight pants.

I have seen some non-slipper Uggs in stores recently, however, and I have to say I'm impressed. The ones I've seen are rugged but stylish.

I never wore Uggs nor the cheap knock-offs, they look too flat for my high arches. But currently I have my eye on these. They would be a combination slipper flat and actual slipper. Sort of an indoor-outdoor slipper. Has anyone seen them? The reviews are good.
