Two piece "dresses" that don't show my navel?

I'm tall and have a difficult time finding clothing, but dresses are a particular nuisance because I need an extra inch or two from the bust to the waist. Most waists on dresses are much too high and then the back end of the dress does not fall properly. I should learn to sew, but I can't see myself doing that very soon.

So, I do believe that a two piece dress would be a solution! However, many two piece dresses I see show the midsection of the body, and I'm interested in a "dress" look that covers completely.

Is there such a thing?

Have you tried ordering dresses in tall sizes? They can work well, marija.

I echo Angie. Old Navy offers talls in tops and dresses. I’ve had good success getting more torso length with their tall tops.

I wouldn’t wait for a sale; ON items sell fast and they aren’t good about restocking. Buy what you want when you see it with ON—that seems to work best for me. Or try a resale sight and look specifically for tall size.

Can’t think of any other retailers who offer tall sizes off the top of my head, but they do exist. Worth trying!

Another thought is to try Eloquii or City Chic. They are plus size retailers whose clothes are fit and cut for female body curves. (This suggestion won’t work for someone who wears smaller clothing sizes.) City Chic goes as low as a size 12, and Eloquii a size 14, so there is some wiggle room. Thus far, I have never needed a tall with their clothes. That’s saying a lot for me, particularly with dresses and tops. I never expected to find such great fitting clothing like I have with those two brands. Just another idea.

Angie, I do have some older dresses in tall sizes, but they have been difficult to find in Canada.

Ket, I haven't been to ON in a very long time. I should check it out. I'm a 10 or sometimes an 8. I was looking for more of a formal dress, like for a wedding. Bonus points if it could be used in a more casual setting too!

I do see a lot of top and skirt combos in the same material lately, at least online. A lot of the basics-type companies, like Pact.

Marija, ON is actually now selling more formal dresses for weddings! The ones I saw could be worn formal or even more casual imo. I do think the prices were a bit expensive even by ON standards; dresses were marked at $69. BUT... I still think it was nice to see something new from ON that could be more formal. Worth checking out!

I’m following because I’ve had trouble trying to find matching top/ skirt ( or coordinating tonal ) combos this year. Wanted for casual wedding, even a funeral ( depending on colors/ prints. I need short of 3/4 sleeves svc a cre of boat neckline, and not too Boho, so that eliminates a lot. I’ll see a stock photo of something that looks promising and then realize it’s cropped! A lot of times the photos kind of “ hide” the top length ( like tucking in a bare inch of top).

I may post a separate rant on finding pushed 2- piece outfits!

I wouldn’t count on finding tall sizes in store at Old Navy or affiliates in Canada, but it’s very easy to order online and return.
My 6’ friend who is (proportionately) long through her torso (but somehow also has impossibly long legs lol) was super excited to discover Boden tall sizes last year, she ordered her first jumpsuit and is thrilled with it. She’s not much of a dress person but I’m going to ask her if she’s ordered anything else.
