Next weekend we have two formal events, one on Friday and another on Saturday. Help me figure out what to wear and how to accessorize. I am probably going to have to shop my closet for this -- no time to go shopping.
About the events: both are associated with the university where DH works so it'll be a young, fun crowd, not a stuffy one. So while I want to look age appropriate, I can have some fun here. (in other words, I don't need to ramp this up to Back Bay sophisticated).
Friday is Man of the Year awards, which we go to every year, so I like to wear something different than in the past years. It is formal but you can get a little funky /edgy with it, since the festivities include watching a drag show performance by the Hasty Pudding club. In past years, we were hit with huge snow storms and appropriate footwear/keeping warm was an issue; right now it's rather mild so cross fingers....
The Saturday event is a masquerade ball. I have a mask that I used one year for a Halloween costume when I went as a peacock. (See pic 1). I could wear this same cobalt blue satin dress but I'm afraid that using it for Halloween costumes twice now has forever tainted the dress in my eyes... but it still fits so if you like that option with the mask (and without the peacock tail), let me know!
Here are the dresses up for consideration:
Pic 2 - RL jersey dress in plum. I bought this primarily for work purposes, but the neckline is rather dramatic and low, so without a cami underneath, it totally works for formal attire. Also it's comfy. I am thinking this may work for Friday?
Pic 3 - Another RL jersey dress in navy. I also bought this for work purposes, but when it arrived, I realized it has silver jewelry pieces sewn into the shoulders. In other words, it's meant to be formal. These pieces can be easily removed, which I plan to do, but I refrained for now since I knew I had some formal events coming up. I am thinking this may work for Saturday, since the navy complements the colors in the mask?
Pic 4 - I have a Maggy London stretch satin floral dress, very similar to this, which doesn't get enough love, but I am not sure this is appropriate for February. The version I have has the same exact print, but it's sleeveless, scoop neckline, empire waist, and midi length. It's very flattering and I tried it on yesterday with my cropped pleather moto jacket and loved the look -- adds edge, might be fun for Friday? But again, not sure if the floral pattern "reads" appropriate for winter?
Footwear options (all 2-3/4 inch and comfy):
pic 5 - nine west purple suede pumps
pic 6 - Ros Hammerson micro black
pic 7 - trusty nine west calf hair giraffe pumps (similar to this)
pic 8 - round toe Bandolino nude pumps
I also have a pair of cobalt blue sky high platform T-strap heels... but when I tried them on, they looked dated to my eye, so I am giving them up.
What to do for:
Clutch?
I have a few options. I have two cream clutches (a roomie one I use a lot; and a tiny box clutch that is fun though not that practical), a black sequin clutch (it's really small though), and a metallic clutch (one Angie also has). Also a bright green clutch that might go with the mask (I actually used it with my halloween costume), but it drives me nuts because I can barely fit anything in it.
Jewelry?
I have no idea here- HELP!
Topper to keep my arms warm inside?
I have a variety of pashminas. I also have the cropped pleather jacket. And I have this fun black fake-fur, 3/4 sleeve, hip length jacket that I got ages ago that never gets any love, but may also work... if weather is warm enough I could potentially wear it as outerwear.
Hose? Nude fishnets?
