I know we have talked about twin sets before and they are actually outdated. I have a twin set 12 to 15 years old and not worn for several years and not worn a lot when I did wear it. Both are fine knit, red and white. The optic white, still looks good, no discoloration whatsoever and the red, not faded and very vibrant. The inside sweater, solid white is like a shell, sleeveless, and with nice vertical, delicate ribbing on each side from armholes to bottom of sweater, a V NECK , my favored neckline, fits perfect, feels perfect. The top sweater, red with two white stripes at bottom ends of sleeves, two medium size white horizontal stripes around the bottom of sweater and ending stripe red. And it has the same vertical white stripe from bottom of sweater to armhole on each side. Now my question, what could I wear with each piece, and it wouldn't look like a twinset? Personally I love them together but its obvious they are a twinset and outdated. Or should I let them go.
Getting things together to wear with my new salt and pepper hair. lol

When I think of a twinset, I think of both pieces being the same colour. If I understand correctly, yours has one sold white piece under a red and white piece? I would think you could continue to wear them together if you like them together, or wear the white one wth almost anything else. As Joy suggests, pictures would help!

Joy, I wish, but I don't have the slightest idea how to add a pic. Maybe someday, someone in my family (very small to begin with) can slow down long enough to tell me. Ha. Btw, I suppose todays word is colorblock for the red and white cardi I was describing.

Carol, Thanks. The only thing I can come up with the red and white sweater is another white item, maybe a white sleeveless blouse, but doubt I will ever do that. I don't wear sleeveless blouses and would not want to buy one for this one sweater. I also don't wear cardi's very much .( I explained to Joy about the lack of pics.

Wear the pieces together this fall/ winter. Anything you want to wear is fine. They sound like the go together but are not rally matching. Even if they are, who cares. If you like the look is all that matters. You can always wear either piece or both with blue denim or some shade of tan or white on the bottom.

Joy, it's beginning to click now, since you mentioned denim. I wear something denim almost every day! I even have a denim cami,, scalloped neckline, that gives it a very feminine look. I will have to locate it and try with the red and white sweater and try different color bottoms .

I think twinsets are classic and you should wear the items together. To update, wear the twin set with something that you wouldn’t have worn it with when you first bought it 12-15 years ago. So maybe a currently trending colour (eg an earthy colour) or a trending silhouette (eg wide leg pants).

I don't think twinsets are outdated. But if you feel they are, for your own look - you could wear the shell under a blazer, and the outer sweaters with a patterned top or dress (florals or stripes or dots?) in similar colors (adding blue. green and/or yellow? Or layer over solid colors like pale yellows or blues. Might be nice for spring - the nautical red, white and blue look is always classic.

Denim, as a neutral, would be excellent. I think pairing the red and white with an earth tone would also be modern or perhaps a stone grey,

Twinsets aren't outdated, in fact they are very on trend!

I also think twinsets are currently on trend. Doesn't Angie have a couple of sets? Anyway, yours sounds lovely. I would wear them together or as separates, as described by others above. I like the idea with jeans. A cool juxtaposition; lady-like on top and tomboy on the bottom. I would keep the shoes less lady-like too, booties or sneakers, something chunky or substantial.

Twin sets are certainly on trend now and yours sound lovely. To wear them in a current manner, I would combine them with a current bottom or current shoe (or both).

Your twinset sounds modern and fab.

In addition to blue denim bottoms, I suggest wearing it with white denim bottoms or with bottoms in navy or grey. Try various greys, from silver grey to medium grey to charcoal. The latter would probably kind of bookend your hair.

Bottoms with patterns (eg. checks. stripes, polkadots) that include either red or white or both of these colours would be fun and sophisticated.

Brooklyn, I like your ideas. Actually, I am thinking of adding wide legged pants. I do not have any yet, but kinda getting the itch, and probably in a neutral color. Thank you.

Sloper, thanks for your comments. And you did bring to mind several things I have in my closet that will work. Although I think I will try wearing them together as a trial. I never really know if I will like something on me until I actually wear it. Usually I do like it, and I should, after all the stressing I do before I wear it.

Rachy, in my last post I asked you lovely friends about snakeskin and grey. After I "talked" to you fabber friends , I went shopping for snakeskin at Talbots, looking for a vest, top, and doggone, they didn't have any in my size. I did end up buying a pair of pearl gray straight leg cords. So gray is on the horizon. I know I like the red with grey, but don't know about red and white. And maybe not cords. Oh, we will see.!! Thanks for posting.

Star, thanks for posting. The sleeveless sweater is about the most lady-like item I have, I believe. It does have a slightly deep cut V neck but not too deep, and the way the cardi fits over it lets it show. And yes, I have always loved the way Angie has kept her twinset (s) in rotation and shows no sign of letting up.

Tanya oh, yes I am going to wear them with current items. I don't have any pants that old and no 3 inch stilettos either. Ha. I have only booties, loafers and sneakers now. Thanks for posting.

The Cat, A lot of good suggestions. I most definitely will wear with white jeans, also have navy pants, and grey, that I am considering. I don't have much in the way of patterned bottoms, but that is a good thought.

I'm guessing you have a lighter colouring (do you know your seasonal subtype)? If so, I'd say the red & white could go well together with grey, blush pink, mint green & lavender.

If you can pull off darker colours, then cognac/ tan, navy & burgundy would make unexpected but fresh combinations too (red & burgundy would technically be monochromatic, which is currently on trend).

Zaeobi, I do have a lighter coloring, and I don't know my seasonal subtype. I am making some adjustments because I am letting my red hair go natural, salt and pepper grey. I am eliminating cream, ivory, brown, and adding black in again. In the colors you mention, I never felt I could wear light lavender, because of skin color, but then and now I can wear brighter, bolder, fuchsia, hot pink bright orchid, etc.. Blush pink and mint green, turquoise and teal, but nothing much else in green. However, all shades of navy and blues, I love. And i like burgundy. I have considered that I would like red monochromatic with the bottom toned down, like burgundy, wine, etc,. I really don't like bright red bottoms on me, but love it on top. And I do plan to wear some darker bottoms. Hope you can make sense of all my rambling here. And any more ideas or suggestions, I welcome.

Thanks suntiger. Yea, now that I got into this, I also am seeing twin sets.
And I tried mine with soft grey cords (too hot to wear yet ) and I love them.
