A bit different twinset - help me style it please

Sal has posted about the items she wants to wear but doesn’t. I have this interesting set but have not worn it yet…

A couple of years ago I bought this printed silk blouse - Marina Rinaldi. I have worn it a few times, but not as much as my other tops - I wear solid colors much more frequently than patterns. It is all good though, I am glad I have this blouse in my wardrobe.
Later on, I saw a matching jacket in an outlet clearance. I bought it. The idea was to create an interesting and different kind of a twinset. The jacket is very nice - well cut in beautiful thick cotton fabric with large gold buttons.

The jacket is quite a bit shorter than the blouse and the blouse has full length sleeves. My idea was not to tuck the blouse and create interesting layering.

The two pieces look nice together, but I have not worn the combination yet. It is very dressy and although I don’t mind wearing dressy outfits on normal days, I struggle styling this. This is where I would appreciate your advice. Below pictures of the blouse, jacket and me wearing the blouse before I got the jacket.
What I can imagine is to combine the twin set with cream trousers - which I have. But I don’t know which bag, jewelry, shoes in order to dress this set down and make it more casual and modern.
What do you think? Is it possible to make it “cool” or should I save it for dressy occasions? Which tbh are few nowadays.

Ooh, what a gorgeous set. I wouldn't save it for dressy occasions - I would enjoy it with cream pants/skirt and sneakers. I'm not sure about the other details but I'd get that into rotation. So pretty!

To wear them casually I’d pair them with jeans, sneakers or casual sandals, and maybe a straw bag. The jeans could be white/off while, or blue, casual or dressier. Could also pair with a casual pant like cargo, balloon, etc. in any number of colors.

If you wanted to take it in an interesting direction, you could amp up the direction it's already going in by adding chunky gold jewelry and/or a purse with a gold chain. You could also add black pearls or any black beady jewelry you may have...

I think, honestly, if I were going to pair it with cream trousers, I'd keep going in a "proper" direction with those types of elements.

Try it with jeans too. Light neutral fashion sneakers. Hoop earrings. Cream bag.

Barbara Diane, thank you for the suggestions. I will have to try different colours as well, not just cream. A straw gad is a great idea. I don’t have any right now, but it would be a useful addition to my wardrobe anyway.

Carol, thank you for the ideas. I have a black bag with gold chains, maybe it would work.

Thank you Angie, for the help. I haven’t considered blue jeans, but now when you say it - they will work well with this combo and light sneakers.

How about….adding a scarf in a wildly clashing print/color way? I’m imagining a smallish silk square in a geometric print with some bright green and purple (ok, and a little red to tie it all together) tied insouciantly around the neck.

I know that’s super specific but I also know your scarf collection is deep!

Something about really out there pattern mixing seems like a signal that you’re not taking things too seriously iykwim

Oooh, I love this!! I would definitely wear with white or cream jeans and blue jeans. I'd wear with light coloured (or red) sneakers, and a bag in a light tone. It's gorgeous!!

That print is really gorgeous on you! I like Angie's suggestion - and would also add I find changing the length of things (by tucking or folding under, nothing permanent) really makes a difference with some beautiful classics.

Beautiful set. It reminds me of my nieces vintage dishes that are in reds on a white background. From a distance the reds and white look pink. You could style with black or white and I like the top with the pink trousers you are wearing. For spring/summer I would style with cream or nudish pink bag and/or shoes, pearls.
To dress it down you might wear sneakers or summer sandals and carry a straw bag. Jeans in a light wash or white seems ideal for casual bottoms or even a denim skirt.

Wow how maximally fabulous! I love the idea of cream trousers. I feel like black accents could be another option ... handbag, shoes, etc. With your dark hair I think it would look harmonious despite the contrast.

Wow - these are fabulous pieces. If i were wearing it - but we have completely different colouring so....- I'd wear them with light wash raw hem cropped flares, and either red/white Adidas Gazelles, or a plain white birkenstock. I LOVE this !

Suntiger, yes, thank you. I have dark brown straight full length trousers in very thin wool. The colours would be nice together. I also have burgundy trousers - joggers style. Not -sure these will work but will try.

Helena, thank you. Black accents is something I would really like and why not? I have many black bags and shoes, scarves. I will try putting together an outfit with black components.

LJP, thank you for this. I can picture you in this outfit as you describe it. I don’t have birkenstock, but sneakers with a similar wibe as the Adidas Gazelle I have.

Thank you all again for the feedback and suggestions. I am so glad you like the combo, I was getting unsure, thinking if it was a mistake to get the jacket. I will try to find time for an outfit creating session to test all the ideas properly.

My first thought was jeans but I see some others have mentioned that. A light wash pair would look good.

What a beautiful set. I like this updated toile pattern, and it is just gorgeous on you. It looks like the blush pink trousers you are wearing with it go really nicely. I was thinking the same as Suntiger, to go with some dark red or burgundy if you had a match. But also cream trousers or jeans, or any shade of denim would look super fab, as others have suggested. I bet you would have just the right sneakers to complete the outfit with a casual feel. Black will be beautiful, too, especially if you want to go dressy, for an evening event or holiday party when the time comes. I can see the jacket alone over a shift dress with pretty sandals for summer. Or over a jumpsuit or top-and-skirt or top-and-pants in a solid cream.

I love this pattern and it really complements your coloring. I am interested to see a photo of you with both the jacket and the blouse at the same time, though I’m not sure the style of the pieces is informal enough to go with the shirt untucked

Love that pattern! You have received some good advice here. I would also try the jeans/sneakers route first. Of course cream or burgundy would be gorgeous also but not casualize it as much.
