Online secondhand store Twice has been bought by eBay and are closing down their store. If you've got store credit, make sure that you use it before they close entirely - there's 30% off on everything, final sale.

Sigh. I'm not surprised but I am bummed; I've bought and sold so much from them in the last year and a half. And I sent in several boxes of stuff earlier this spring and still haven't used all the store credit I earned.

Sorry to hear that, Laura. I remember that you wrote a thread about Twice a while back, and that you were quite happy with the service. I do hope you can use up your store credit!

Wow, that didn't last long. I loved the idea of it but had a hard time navigating their site for purchases. It could just be that I've become too picky. Hope that you can use your store credit!

I was not a buyer, but was a seller. We only have one consignment store here, and they are always "not taking new stuff" and hard to work with.
In fact, I sent in about 20 items just over a week ago and wonder if I "made it under the wire" or if that's why I've not heard back--usually I hear back in a week, very reliably.

Maybe this will make me even more mindful of purchases?

Oh no! I'd been sending them a bunch of my mid-level items because most of the consignment shops here really only want the higher-end brands.

I'm going to have to figure out what to do with my current box of items now.

unfrumped, they do have a paragraph in that blog post I linked above about those who sent in stuff in to sell - I think they're offering to send them back to you if they haven't already made an offer. I'm sure you'll get an email if you haven't already, though.

I've heard OK things about thredup, although I believe they only offer store credit and no cash payment option like Twice did. I will probably look into them once I amass another round of stuff to get rid of. Or maybe I'll just donate to the thrift store. I'm like you, the consignment stores nearby are very picky and more high-end, and I haven't found ebay worth the time and trouble.

I just managed to put in an order myself using up my store credit - site was really slow, but then I'm staying somewhere with slow internet, so it might be a combination of factors. I definitely recommend shopping soon if you need to use up your store credit - they've discounted most things more, plus there's a sitewide 30% coupon.

Sorry to hear about that I never used them as the few times I checked they had pretty slim pickings in my size. Still, it was great for a lot of people. Sally on Always Pretty raves about them, too.

That's a shame for those of you who use it! I only used it once, before they changed their free return shipping policy. But I headed over to look at the sale and am impressed! I got a headstart on my fall/winter shopping and nabbed some cashmere and merino knitwear for around $5 a piece! And a couple other great deals might have popped into my cart too. So thanks for the heads up.

I sold things to Twice a few times, even though I only averaged about $8 per item. The one shop I use locally- Clothes Mentor- works the same way in that they pay cash on the spot. But they pay about the same, maybe even less. Though I can take shoes there too which is nice.

We only have a couple of consignment stores. The one nice one only takes items one day a week, for like a 2 hour window. Uh, I work that day and can't just head out at 10 am to see if you might want to take my stuff.

I'm thinking that I just need to be that much more careful in my shopping so that I am wearing things enough that I don't mind just taking them to Goodwill.

I think that ThredUp is a competitor? Has anyone tried to sell there?

Susie, Twice was taking shoes and handbags! So that was working well for me with offloading some shoes that mostly were too high-heeled or uncomfortable but still good.
I guess the lucky think is I was able to use them with the wardrobe editing I did in the past couple of years, thanks to YLF, and so there are fewer "really wrong" items left.
But, I was considering taking another stab at really culling down to essentials, and while it shouldn't make any difference where those would go, and also for years I've just done Goodwill and felt good about that, I was geared up for my Twice plan. Oh well!

That's too bad. I haven't dealt with them (I wear hard-to-find sizes), but they filled an important niche.

It was a bummer reading the close-out notification.

I wish they had let sellers know sooner, also returns, since I don't know if my return will even arrive before the use-by date.

Fingers crossed for you, Alasse - I think any returns need to arrive by the end of the month. But by then who knows what will be left to buy with your credit.

I agree that they could have dealt with this better. A lot of people who have sales orders pending are aggravated that they'll have to pay the return shipping to get their items back, that is if they don't want them just to be donated. Twice really should send them back for free, in my opinion.

I managed to place an order yesterday afternoon and didn't get my order confirmation email until this morning - so they're obviously overloaded with all the orders all at once. Hopefully the items are available and it will arrive, eventually!

Amiable, I'm probably going to try thredup next, once I get a critical mass of clothes to send them. I believe they take kids' clothes too, so they might be ideal for you.
