So at Red Square (my favorite clothing boutique, where the owner also gives sewing lessons), there was a bargain bin of clothes $20 and less. I picked out several cool pieces, including the BCBG Max Azria vest in the photos.

There was also this deconstructed pair of plaid trousers with unfinished hems and edges. Unfortunately they were too small. But the owner suggested that my daughter (she's 9) could work on them at sewing camp, and add a tuxedo stripe down the sides to add some width.

My daughter was really proud that she could take apart the pants, cut out and add the stripes, and reconstruct the pants. And because the pants were already deconstructed, finishing details weren't that important.

Although the pants could probably be a bit more tapered in the legs, I think I will enjoy wearing them. Now, to decide on length...
