Ladies,
I need your help in deciding which one of these two tuxedo jackets I should keep. They are pretty much identical in fabric content and the quality of construction. There is a tiny bit of price difference but I will not reveal which one is more expensive in order not to influence you. There are a few minor differences:

Jacket 1:
- No buttons, fastens with a tiny hook.
- The lapel shape is different, this one has crew neck collar and lapels are fixed in place.
- This one is a tiny bit shorter.
- The black satin pn the lapels is a bit shinier satin.
- Two pocket slits on each side, no real a pockets.

Jacket 2:
- Single button closure, also one button on each sleeve. Buttons are fabric covered.
- This one has a more traditional blazer collar. They collar can be popped up if necessary.
- This one is a bit longer.
- The lapel is is a matte, black satin.
- Two flap pockets on each side, no real pockets, Another slit pocket on the bust, left side.

I keep looking at the pictures and I really don't see a clear winner. Please help! Which one should I choose?

I like the first one better, but that's because I dislike the way the top of the black lapels crook upward like cat ears. But now that I look closely, I also like the cut of the first one better.

I think I like the first one better, but they're both so similar! I had to look back and forth quite a few times to see the differences. I don't think you could go wrong with either. The sleeves seem a little long on both jackets, but that might just be my personal preference for sleeve length.

Another vote for the first one.

The first one seems a tad more tailored in at the waist, while the length on the second helps it to lie better when viewed from the side . . . hmmm. I'm partial to shorter jackets so I will choose #1.

I like the first one too. I like the contoured hem (longer in front and shorter in back), giving a nice little curve to your back-waist. I also like what the cut of the lapels does for your shoulders. I'm partial to shorter jackets, too. I feel like they make the legline look a bit longer and I like the proportion that makes.

The ONE tiny point I will make against the first one (which remains my favourite of the two) is that the back seam is visible in the photos in a way that it isn't in the second jacket, suggesting that the lining might be heavier or better quality in #2.

Suz, excellent observation. I am going to examine the fabric and the lining a bit more closely in the daylight.

I like the style and the fit of #1 the best. But, I also noticed the lining and seam on #1 and wondered if it was visible IRL. I didn't think that the 2nd one looks as good buttoned up as the first one looks when it is "hooked" up. The button placement on the 2nd one looks like it is wrong. Also, the black "smiley" collar points on the 2nd one were distracting to me - so, I would go with #1 - unless, that lining/seam "thing" is an issue!

I think #1 is better as well. The length seems more flattering on you and I agree with the others that the lapels on #2 are a bit distracting.

Okay...I still prefer the length and shape (and lapel shape) of #1, but looking again I think #2 appears higher quality. Even in the pics. Which is significant with an item like this that you might keep in your closet for a number of years.

I also think #1 is a better cut and fit and did notice the visible seam but it may be due to flash or brighter lighting for the pic. Can you see the seam as clearly when just looking at the jacket?

I agree with Suz that #1 looks best with regard to cut and fit, but that there is something appealing about #2 (maybe quality). If this is going to be a once-in-a-while partywear item, I'd have no problem going with #1. If this is going to be a wardrobe staple, maybe reexamine the quality of #1.

I can't pick but definitely prefer both unbuttoned and want to see this styled with the Docs that Angie has and is wearing in the background of the site this month.

I vote #2 hands down. More sophisticated and fashionable, and looks better with trousers. KILLER!

As far as the quality goes - I leave that up to you. It's impossible to judge quality from a photo.

I prefer the fit of 1 on you, but if 2 were tailored it would be great. The only thing I don't know about on 1 is the hook closure, I always feel those must be hooked and you would not have the option to wear open.

Ladies, thank you very much for your thoughtful responses. I examined the first dress in daylight this morning. In addition to the backseam, I realized that the lining of the two pockets were also visible. The fabric was apparently too thin and flimsy. I therefore decided to return the first jacket and am holding on to #2 for now.
