Turning pointy toe shoes into round toe?

Is it possible for a good shoe repair person to turn pointy toe shoes into round toe shoes?

Late last winter I bought a pair of flat tall boots off ebay, but they are way pointier in the toe than I like - I actually feel like I have clown shoes on cos they are so long out the front, so I was wondering if I can have them re-shaped because there is LOADS of room in front of my toes...

I think they are leather sole, but PU upper.

Here's a pic of them - excuse the shorts look - they were just what I had on when I took the pic LOL

Or am I best to just accept that they aren't what I hoped and look for a new pair?

I've never thought of that either. I would guess if it could be done there would be a big cost involved? x

I think cobblers can generally do a lot more with leather than with pleather. I'd take them to a cobbler and see, but I don't think it's likely (and I'd imagine that even if they were leather, it would cost a LOT--s/he'd have to take the whole boot apart, it seems like).

yeah that's kind of what I was thinking - it would involve pulling the whole shoe apart... and they only cost me $10 including postage, so I suspect I'm probably best just cutting my losses and looking for another pair.

But I will talk to my shoe person - can't hurt to ask!

(PS I sew, so I often think of altering things that probably shouldn't be LOL)

Theresa, I totally know what you mean about altering things that should be left alone - I sew and knit and love DIY projects, so whenever possible I alter or re-purpose! But I think Louise and Dashrashi are right that it would be very expensive...

Yeah, I think you'll probably have to cut your losses. I'm sure it can be done, but you can probably a new pair for what it would cost.

Maybe a square toe would be easier to do than round.
They look like they would be fabulous as part of a witch costume.

At the risk of being a broken record on this topic... a fairly simple shoe alteration (taking in the calf of a knee-high boot) costs around $80. My guess is that rounding out a pointy toe, given that it would involve alterations to the sole as well, would cost more than that. And -- the biggest consideration -- even if you decided it was worth it, you wouldn't know until you were finished whether your cobbler had enough expertise to do a convincing job.

With everything involved, it seems like that money would be better spent on a new pair. But that said - I'm very interested to know your shoe person's opinion! Keep us posted...

Well, I did end up phoning my shoe person and they said, no, they wouldn't do it and they sincerely doubted anyone else would in our area either...

And I trust them because they do a fab job on everything else I give them to do LOL

So, it looks like I have a pair of "witchy" boots and am on the hunt for another pair instead.

At least we learned something LOL
