Janet, FWIW, I like it! Quite a lot. I don’t think it’s too poufy at all and I really like how you’ve styled it, especially with the long sleeved black top and the jackets.

Janet, I am not fan of tulle skirt, but I adore it this skirt on you. You look amazing with black top . Like also with cobalt moto jacket. Keep it!

Brutal opinion: You are waaaay too sensitive over your imagined body shape flaws and are absolutely gorgeous, including in this flattering tulle skirt.

Janet, I actually really love it on you! All the ways you have styled it are awesome.

And the jewelry is gorgeous too!

I know what you mean about a waistband sitting too high (i.e., right at the natural waist for me, which, since I am short-waisted, feels like it's right underneath my bra strap!). I hate that feeling and won't wear anything that sits there--too uncomfortable. So, how does this skirt *feel* on you? When you sit down, how does it feel?

Love it! Gorgeous on you - beautiful combos with jackets or plain black tee. I think length works with black booties and could do as well with black tights and stompy boots ( or your black low heeled sandals ).
Take your time deciding - it's such a fun piece!
Jewelry is fab as well .

Wow, ok, you all are helping me look at it in a different light. Keep the opinions coming either way.

Jonesy, that is a critical question. Is it comfy enough to lounge around in? God no. But that’s not the point of a piece like this. But I need to try it on again and do a sit test. I think black hosiery underneath would help too. I should have tried with some of my lug sole boots. Dark burgundy patent, and black suede in particular.

I LOVE THE SKIRT, JANET!!! KILLER GORGEOUS. The way you've styled it is absolutely delicious for your style!! I see flattering combinations and a beautiful women. Full stop.

What Vildy said

AND what Jonesy said. Make sure you like how you feel in the skirt. There is no point in keeping it if it does not make you happy or feel right on your body. And ask hubs Jamie too.

Oh that's a good point about the waistband. I can't wear a lot of things that sit at my natural waist unless it's a very skinny waistband because otherwise it ends up squishing my rib cage, which for me is unbearably uncomfortable.

Also meant to add that you and Suz have got me looking at this shop now! I am really tempted to order something.

Janet, I'll echo the opinion that it looks FAB on you and seems to suit your style so well.

I do get the whole waistband thing, though. We can all tell you how great it looks, but if it feels uncomfortable, will that prevent you from reaching for it?

Is it constructed in such a way that the waist could be let out a bit to let it sit lower?

Thanks for all the feedback!

Carol, the waist doesn’t really allow for much alteration that I can tell. There is a zip portion right under one of the buttons. It’s hidden by the tulle, so maybe there’s a little play to move each button a half inch or so? I’ll have to take a closer look.

Haven't read other people's comments, but I really like this on you! I like 1, 3, and 7 the best for some reason. Maybe the leather jackets seem tooheavy for the lightness of the tulle?

I think that if the skirt sits any lower, the poofiness at the bottom will be too low, and that will create an unflattering look (at least that is what would happen on me, so I am super sensitive to that). I think that it sits at the right spot. I think that this is just something different than your usual fare.

By the way, I love those booties! What are they?

What Angie said!!! I'm so glad you showed us. It is SO not what you said/ thought when you first tried it on. It looks great, to my eye!

I found my leather jacket a bit heavy for the skirt (to Gigi's point) but I also think it is do-able -- with dark sheer tights, stompy boots, and a more substantial top, I think the leather will actually work. The tights are probably key. (Maybe black fishnets to really play up the punk?)

Ok- I quite like this on you . The length is fine - really good . But …..I wonder how it would look with a slightly longer top or jacket for tempering the volume around the lower midsection / hip area . Do you know what I mean ? To keep the volume lower down on the body ? It does kind of magnify the high waisted situation …
But it is very cool

What Vildy said.........

I like this much better than the leather joggers on you. It is more fun and less faddish.

I especially love it in Pic 1.

LOVE it! I, too, have to agree that I don't see the things that you perceive about yourself in a mirror at all. You look amazing in this skirt! While I do agree that black hosiery underneath would make it more harmonious to my eye (but I tend to like black tights/hose, so I am biased in that direction), I think the length is great and it goes SO well with your jackets! Just like on Suz, I really love this skirt with a jacket!

I think it's great and I'm super tempted now, although I have nowhere to wear something like that.

Janet I adore this skirt! It has an edgy pink vibe and I think it best to go with that. It’s look great on you and I would keep you styling edgy. I know it’s kind of dressy but I wear my tulle skirts dresses down for day and sometimes adding sneakers, a tshirt, and then some statement accessories. Enjoy! It looks amazing on you x

I like it - especially with the bright blue moto.

I think this is a pretty cool skirt & flattering, love the color and irregular shape/texture. gives a bit of a vivienne westwood vibe....especially with the motos

LOVE. Wow Janet, it looks AMAZING on you. Love the jewellery too.

Hope the crazy weather is done for a while - so scary.

What others have said. You look amazing in it and think you should keep it. Do you have places to wear it? .

I love it on you, and I think the length is great actually.

Though I echo what others say about making sure it is comfortable - both physically and mentally.

I must say, when I try a garment on and immediately take it off because it looks terrible on me, I…do not look like you do here!

Mouth gaping fan of this skirt! Especially with that fabulous leather jacket. Wow modern Vivienne Westwood vibes for sure. I would keep it, but not if you can't sit comfortably!

Wow this skirt looks really good!

Ah, I see now, you posted picties, yeay!! You were too harsh on yourself, Janet-think the skirt looks great, and yes, black sheers to it, and then what lisap said:-I would style it with no tucks-a welted black sweater for ex?

Thanks everyone for the feedback, kind words, and styling ideas!

The tricky thing about styling is that it seems most of the tops I have that go with this are not quite cropped enough to work. My shortness in the torso means that tops — even cropped ones — hang longer on me than on most people my height. Too long, and the top just sort of masks any hint of waist with the volume of the skirt, or it bunches up and sits unflatteringly on my hips. Hence my fudging with semi-tucks here.

I think low-contrast tops (mostly black, but maybe a burgundy would work) + jackets are the key to making this really work for me. I only tried cropped jackets so far. My instinct is to wear gently fitted tops with it — my one black top with a welted band is the Allsaints one with the buttons at the shoulders and dolman sleeves, and I think it’s too voluminous — volume over volume is probably not the way to go here. But I will try various tops next time I try it on, time permitting.

Gotta say I love it too. I think you’re right about the challenge of finding the right top. The tee in your first photo is great (at least the way you have it arranged, looks maybe intentionally scrunched at the waist) and a slightly cropped boxy tee would work too. I think the key with this skirt and your style is to keep it as casual and punk / rock & roll as possible. A dressier combination would be somehow too classic. And I love it with the blue leather and the jean jacket.

I really like this on you and I think you’ll figure out how to style it so you’re comfortable. I like the black tee and black boots outfit the best, but all of the jackets work too, since it’s likely you’ll need some kind of topper.

Fun!
