Trying to Style Booties - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Ladies

I promise - this will be my last post for the weekend!!! I've been kind of hogging the forum today.....I apologize.

I had a little free time so I pulled out my 3 pairs of ankle boots. The taupe/grey pair is old - about 3 years, but rarely worn. I didn't know how to style it, and always preferred tall or mid-calf length boots in the past. The 2 black pairs are new. I'll like to wear my boots in October as we transition into winter. It's not cold yet; the weather is in late 20's C, but evenings are very cool and pleasant

So, do you think these outfits work? Are the proportions working? I'll add some sort of lightweight topper as and when it cools a bit...

I feel that ankle length boots DO NOT work for me with pants. I can't figure out why. They look better with skirts. Am I wrong? Or is it just about re-adjusting my eye, since I'm used to seeing my pants tucked into tall boots?

I would really really appreciate your honest opinion/criticism. Thanks for looking.

Maneera, you wear the ankle boots well! I prefer the style in 1 with pants rather than a skirt, because the top of the bootie is wide. It gives a bit of the "flower pot effect," as people here on the forum refer to it.
I would wear those taupe boots with skinnies tucked in.
I think the booties with pants in 2 is dynamite. Maybe your eye needs to adjust. I like 3; the opening on this boot looks a little narrower, so there's not so much space between your leg and the boot opening.

I agree about#2. My eye definitely needs to adjust to this look. And I'm sure it will, during the course of this winter. Thanks again!

You look adorable in all of these! I agree with Sharan about trying pants with the taupe ones. It took my eye awhile to adjust to ankle boots with pants or dresses, but now I love them. I actually got inspiration from Lucy Liu in the TV show Elementary. She wears ankle boots all the time, and she looks so cute in them! I don't think she's very tall, but she doesn't seem to worry about the leg-shortening effect at all. She just rocks it!

Hah I am all about the flower pot for some styles of boots for me -- you don't have the same boho streak that I do though. So for you I prefer something more tailored, and agree with Sharon's thoughts about the taupe pair working nicely with pants (though I do like how they look with a skirt too; I particularly like to wear my flower-potted boots with shorts, but usually they're flatter). I vote your eye needs to adjust to #2, that whole boot+pant combo is fab particularly with the sliver of skin showing. Those boots work VERY well with pants. The boots in #3 should work well with both pants and skirts.

I like all these outfits. I agree with FC that's the boots in no 1 would work well with pants. But I don't mind the flower pot effect either so I think they work as you have styled them. And I think you look great in no 2. Maybe it is just an eye adjustment issue - cos I think YLF.

Maneera, I also would prefer #1 with pants, either skinnies tucked in, or rolled cuffs to top of boot.

The other two pairs work with pants and skirts (and I really like the skirt outfit you put together in #3) to my eye...nice bootie wardrobe!

I like the booties styled in 2 and 3. I like the taupe booties colorwise in 1 but as others have suggested I too think they would look better if they were narrower at the top to avoid the "flower pot issue". I have the same problem with a pair I have and can only wear them with skinnies tucked and even then they still look a little wide to me.

I like #3 the most, then #2. I associate ankle booties with casual style, especially light ones, such as the pair you're wearing in #1. But to me, I get the impression that you feel the best in the 3rd outfit. It looks like something that suits you perfectly.
Also, I would have preferred to see some waist in the 1st outfit.

I wear booties with skinnies all the time. But I don't think you do skinnies much, right? I am not a fan of the flowerpot style on me as I can't style it - but Aida can! It took me a while to realize that no one bootie can do it all - though my patent Topshop ones come close.

I think the first dress would look great with the black booties, and on the other hand the pants look good with them in the second shot.
