trying to get aboard the bag bandwagon - purple?

I've been debating back and forth for months now on getting a colored bag. I was thinking red but now am leaning toward eggplant purple. I mostly wear rich blues, greens, and some red and purple with the basic denim, black and white neutrals. I'm thinking the eggplant will go well with all of the above. Somehow a red bag with red items seems overkill to me whereas eggplant with a berry shade seems complimentary. Anything to this? In the future I will likely buy red, as well, but I need to start somewhere from my current off white and black options.

Ah Mary, I knew you would be all for the color parade!!! I just want to be sure I actually use it and it's not one of those great ideas in theory that never get put into practice. Maybe the more subtle purple can be my stepping stone lol.

I think this is a neutral looking purple, not a bright accent purple. I tend to wear a lot of neutrals, so I like bright bags and shoes. If you wear brighter colors to begin with, then a neutral bag is the way to go. To paraphrase, are you looking for a bag that will add a splash of color to your outfits, or are you looking for something that will blend more with your clothing?

I do like the bag and I love cross body bags, they are so much more back and hands friendly.

How are you feeling, how is your foot? Are you working yet?

Always happy to enable a colored bag purchase. I haven't traditionally worn much color, but I've loved adding a little pop with the colored bags. Eggplant seems like it would work into your wardrobe well.

I like the style of the bag and the color is fun. Sorry, I haven't seen too much of your wardrobe to comment on whether the color will work for you. I'll have to leave that to others. Hope you're feeling well and able to get around a little more.

Co-Captain of Team Neutrals, here to say that I have become enamored of colored handbags. I always only carried black, and now my single black bag hangs in the closet most of the time. Because I wear mostly neutrals, I have grown to love carrying some color. I love that I can put it down and don't have to worry about how it looks near my face.

I have three bags in purple-y berry tones. None is a true blue-y purple, but I love them all and reach for them frequently.

With your wardrobe palette, maybe yellow would also be a contender. (Must admit my own yellow bag did not become a workhorse and went to my sister, but can you see yourself carrying yellow?)

I think this is a no-brainer for you! It's a lovely rich color without being too bright. And it's a Fossil bag which I would expect to hold up well for a long time.

Yay! This is a very mild purple so it will not be such a bright pop of color , but it is perfect for mixing in with the colors you seem to wear (greens as well, right?).

Una, I do tend to wear quite a bit of green and deep blues so I hope this would mix in with those pretty well while still providing a little contrast and color.
April, thanks for the idea, but I don't think I could do yellow! Baby steps lol.
Denise, I'm not sure I want the bag to be a 'statement' per se, but I like the idea of a colored one that will work with most of what I have. I will admit I don't see myself changing out bags every day for outfits lol. So if this one sticks with me for a week (or three) I want it to happily comingle with what I've got.
Foolofatook, I've not had a leather bag in so long, it will be a joy to own a nice supple one again. Right now my off white cotton canvas is plenty versatitle but not so great rubbing against knits and it pulls my shirt up gradually sometimes - yikes!

I have a bid on eBay before I spied this one at a discount so I have to wait it out 3 days to see if I win or not before I accidentally end up with 2! This will put me back into SYC all through April up unitl May lol. I'm eternally ahead of my planned budget . . . @@

ETA: Denise, the ankle is getting better, thanks for asking! I did a practice run of getting into the car, getting the walker into the backseat, and starting it and putting it into gear. Takes enough effort to push in the clutch that I wasn't comfortable with my ability to maintain it for long. Not safe yet.
I don't work while I'm here in FL (lucky me, right?) but tentatively will be back in Tahoe, and to work, in the fall.

Dani, I seem to have missed your post, sorry! Thanks for the wishes for better health. That's why you haven't seen much of my wardrobe - I haven't been getting dressed for about a month now! But here's a pic of the jumble in my closet for an idea.
I do have 3 or 4 bright purple items but many more reds and greens, which were also bag color choices in the running. I would rather contrast than have to worry about shades of the same color working together.

Louise, I just recently really started liking purple, this last year or so. Never gave it much thought before. With my green eyes I should have been given it a chance long ago.

I purchased a purple bag right after finding YLF when I realized I only had black and brown purses=boring! I love mine and it helped to catapult me out of my comfort zone.

Love that Fossil bag, a cross body bag would be even more fun in that color!

Mo, I was a black and brown bag lady until YLF. Now I have a forest green one, a yellow one, a red one AND a lovely eggplant one from Fossil !

I get the most use out of my eggplant one and I LOVE it soooo much that sometimes I hug it : ) Go with it . It is a lot more basic than you think. It also looks great with berry colors.

Now I am on the hunt for a deep blue one ever since MaryK said that she plans the bag as part of her outfit.

Yay! Based on the closet pics, I think that will be a good starting point. I love purple with greys and definitely reds. It will go very nicely with greens as well.

I've only been active (again) for a couple of weeks but I remember seeing your posts when I would peruse the forum but didn't remember specifics. I know you will be glad to be getting dressed again, but baby steps in that department too Hope the bidding goes well!

Patent red sounds fun! *Sigh* I love red handbags but do not own one myself. I think it's time for me to remedy that!

So the update is that I was away from the computer when the ebay auction ended and lost by a dollar. But seeing as how I was busy being paddled around on the kayak by the BF in 80 degree weather, and that the used bag was $40 vs $70 for brand new (and returnable!) I feel good about missing the auction bag! So I am eagerly awaiting my brand new purple bag in the mail.
