Trying to find mules, period.

Let alone ones that fit!

After Angie made her post about black mules, a bug was planted in my head that they'd make a great spring shoe refresher for me. I was in Nordstroms Ottawa last weekend, and this was one of the things I wanted to look for. Nothing. Well, a few pairs with really ugly bling or bows.

Came home, and went to a local independent shoe store which has the most gorgeous things. Nothing. Well... one pair, in navy.

Went to another mall store, a local chain. Nothing.

Looked at Naturalizer Canada online, just for fun, as I quite like the ones Angie got and was waiting to check out our Natualizer store when I make a mall trip later this week. But at the online store... this style isn't even there!

I can't remember if I looked at Browns or not while I was shopping in Ottawa - we have one here so there was no need, but I think I did, and if I did... nothing.

What's up? Is Canada dragging it's heels (ha!) with this trend? Anyone else finding this?

I should add... lots of slides, just nothing with closed toes.

Yes, Australia is just the same, although I expect if I went into the Gucci store, I would find some. We are going into winter now, so in another six months, when I probably will be bored with the idea, some will start trickling into Australian retailers. It can be tough always being at least 6 months being trends. I do like slides and enjoyed them this summer.

I noticed the same thing on the Naturalizer Canada site. What's up with that? The Bay and Steve Madden both have a good selection , as do a couple of the indie boutiques I've been in lately. The Bay has some nice ones on for BayDay promo right now in fact (inexpensive faux suede - but cute) . The Nine West store also has some here....
The Brown's store here is still full of sneakers, and I mean FULL. Boring. Oh - the Michael Kors boutique has the same style they ran last summer, which is beautiful. Brown's had that one too.

I'm not seeing them in stores here, either, Elizabeth. Of course we still have lingering snow on the ground, so maybe they're all in the back room waiting for our nonexistent spring....

What's up with that? Closed toe mules are all over retail in the US but, I've tried on so many that just don't fit properly. This time around I'm not buying them unless I can actually walk in them. I was lucky and scooped up Angie's mules early. Maybe the Naturalizer store can special order them for you?

I bet some more will turn up once it's warmer. I'm not seeing summer shoe displays yet in my region (I'm in New Hampshire, we're finally getting some above-freezing weather this week).

I've also noticed that most retailers don't stock many black shoes in the summer. It's almost impossible to find black sandals at brick&mortar stores, and even online stock tends to be limited.

Good idea, Colette... I'll ask them what is going on when I go to the mall later this week to do a BR return. That may be an option.

Ha, Suz. I did ask my fav shoe store if they had stock still to come or be put out and they said that was it for the season. So snow or no snow... no mules! Well, at least there. I do find that weird. Maybe they know the Halifax market, and maybe Halifax is still a few years away from this trend

Have you tried l'intervalle? They are hands down my favourite shoe store since they opened a store at the Rideau Centre a couple years ago. I've bought several pairs of mules there. Nice quality....made in Spain. Sizes are European. I'm a size 6 and I'm a solid 36 at l'intervalle.

They were already selling mules two summers ago and I was thrilled to find them.

Those black and white ones are gorgeous Suz and Liz! I love monochrome. Reminds me of a funny story from the 80s. I was wearing a monochrome outfit and must have had 2 similar pairs of brogue like shoes. A co-worker reminded me years later that I had deliberately worn one black shoe and one white shoe. Even I had forgotten! Shades of Helena Bonham-Carter. These look an easier way to get the same effect!
