I am in a sequin tunic hunt and think I found one! But then my mind started saying, besides skinnies, what do you plan to wear this with? Is it something you like the idea of more than the actual item as it fits into your wardrobe? I can't honestly think of more than 2 or 3 ways I'd wear it. But is that enough? Is just having a new trendier item to update your wardrobe worth the possibility of having a one hit wonder? Am I overthinking this?!?! :O

For this price, if you wear it 2 or 3ways, it is worth it unless you become dissatisfied with it and buy another one! I've done that before trying to save money. That's probably just me, though. Get it!

For that price I would want to buy it in person to check on the quality and fit and whatnot. Also, I'm a big believer in cost per wear, and I like the rule of if an item costs X dollars, you need to wear it at least X times. So, if you can only wear it 2 or 3 ways, but will wear it those ways many times, go for it! If you will only wear it a couple times, I would pass and spend the money on something you can buy in person that you know will fit well and look good.

I am struggling with the same issues, Mo. I am trying to focus on workhorses first (and I haven't figured out what those are for me yet!), and hoping to add the fun/edgy items later. But sadly, the quest for cognac boots and sheath dress is not nearly as much fun as the "ooooh, cool!" items.

It's hard to predict what I'll really use, which makes it even harder. Like, I've learned that I RARELY wear my skinny cargoes, which I thought I'd want to wear daily, but I am wearing the tunic tops a lot.

Mo I've a feeling you'll find yourself wearing this more than you think. Though if you're questioning a purchase it may not be the right one; just make sure all the measurements are sound. Getting a new, trendy item can infuse a lot of life into one's wardrobe, even if it's not worn all the time!

I don't think you're overthinking it. Sometimes it's worth thinking about. What's your one hit wonder inventory at the moment (lots, none, a few)? In the last few weeks were there times this would have worked really well?

It's OK to wear a particular item only one way. If you can justify wearing that one configuration enough times, I'd say go for it. You can also wear this tucked into a pencil skirt with a cute cardi/jacket.

I have several different styles of these type. I wear them with jackets , blazers, denim and cardigans...Just so a little sparkle shows through. I think you will get tons of wear:)

I love it, and if your lifestyle allows you to wear it who cares if you only style it a few different ways? Cost per wear, like Katie said. I think it would look darling with skinnies and/or layered with other tops.

For me, though I love it, it would not fit into my lifestyle - I couldn't wear it to work, I doubt I'd wear it around the house and I do not have an active enough social life for 'going out' clothes (sad). But for you? You seem to get out a lot!

I love the phrase "one hit wonder". Sometimes we need those in our closets -- just like on a mix tape (heehee, dating myself, of course I mean "playlist"), a list of only classics and long-time favorites gets boring. You need a one-hit wonder or hit song to keep it interesting and fresh.

Wow, I really like thinking about various wardrobe pieces like that. It's a metaphor that works well on many levels, and is crystallizing a lot of things about my own closet that have always puzzled me. I may have to get all thinky on my blog about it; thanks for the idea!

I agree with those who have said to keep this top. No, you won't be wearing it every week, but you will enjoy having something different to pull out for a special occasion. It's a good price.. go for it.

I think there are some pieces we wear lots of different ways and some pieces we only wear one or two ways but make us feel very fab, and that each of those kinds of pieces has a place in your closet. (Also, sequins are great because you don't really have to worry about accessorizing.)

Thanks for putting your collective heads together with me on this! I think I will go for it. I have plenty of jackets I could throw over it and even with just my grayish green skinny pants and black skinny jeans, that already makes at least 6 different outfits before I even get started with the shoes. Two other rational points are that I am woefully low on pant length tops, and I just weeded out a shiny satin tank which this would replace nicely.

I bought a cheap but nice lace tank recently. Can't quite believe how many outfits it's transformed. Have fun with your sparkles!

The price seems pretty reasonable - if it were a huge budget buster I might have doubts, but it seems worth it at this price.

Of course, now I'm having thoughts of, I already have 2 embellished black tanks . . . sigh. I am torturing myself I think!

Edit: OK, so I looked at my other 2 tanks. One is trapeze style halter so it's a different silhoutte, and the other is really just a layer cami with hardware along the neckline. So, on my see saw here I am back to BUY. LOL!

I have this problem too. I really want a velvet blazer, but when can I wear it besides a holiday party? Yet I still want one.

Well, Lisa, I have 3 and wear them a lot. Just this morning I posted a dress with a dark teal velvet blazer over it. But I hear what you are saying about wondering if your desire would translate into actual wearing in the real world that is your own life!

Oh, and I went ahead with buying the tank. So I will see very soon how much use it does get in my wardrobe!
