Trying the Co-ord Trend

Angie's Summery Sets post inspired me to try the trend. Having an outfit that could work alone or as separates appealed to me. I found this set at Gudrun Sjoden and ordered it to try. It's an entirely different look and color for me but I was curious. What do you think? The pants have very wide legs and I'm not sure of the length. I tried different shoes and what to know which ones you like best. DH loves the outfit so I'm keeping it but I need help styling it.

I love it. What a gorgeous colour. I personally prefer it with more open sandals. It has a breezy vibe. As another option what about also wearing it without an under shell, but buttoned up as a shirt?

This look likes open shoes - VERY summery - so those versions work best to my eye.

What Angie said! I LOVE it on you. Just gorgeous. Prefer it with open footwear, for sure. Need to show a bit of skin for structure.

Also -- others might disagree -- but I wonder if you might consider heming the top portion so that it ends about where it ends on the model? I realize it is meant to be oversized and smock-like and I like that look. I just wonder if the proportions would work a little better, especially with contrasting bottoms. Maybe you could pin it up an inch or two and see?

Angie: Thank you. I like the sandals best, too. What do you think about the Fly London fisherman sandal with the outfit? They might be better for walking than the sandals I now have. What color would be best?

Love this co-ord on you, wonderful colour, looks very versatile and has a great summery vibe, length of the pants looks great with your sandals. Is it linen set?

Suntiger: Thanks. I agree with adding black elsewhere. My necklace is black but maybe it doesn't show up very well in the photo. I also have a black sling bag and black cotton coat I can wear with it.

Thanks, Suz, and what a great idea. The proportions are off and I thought it was the pants but I think you are right and it's the top that's off. I looked at the construction and the pocket are set very low so hemming it might not work. I'll check it out, though, maybe there is a way to shorten it a bit.

Dee: Thank you. I'm glad you like the pants length. The set is 100% cotton and is a nice weight. It has dobby weave stripes which give it more interest than a smooth fabric.

Wow, what a great color! Fun pieces. I also love the sandals with it and would try pinning up the top to see what it does with the proportion. I agree with Joyce that I like the under piece tucked in the best but really these all look good.

All iterations look fab. I like this sort of thing with sandals, perfect if you like Birks or fisherman type sandals.
Surprisingly good with the wide white pants, also.

Wow Bonnie. Looks fabulous on you! I agree with Angie - it works best with sandals.

Because the top is long you could try wrapping the ends around your waist to create a wrap top - if you are into that. Could look good with the high waisted bottoms in #3.

What a bold color choice, like a saturated pumpkin. I love all these looks, but especially the set together. If you are a teacher or a speaker, this is a great look. Also for events.

You look great in this color, and in every version shown. If you needed even more variety, olive looks great with this color. I used to have a lovely silk blend pumpkin sweater set that I wore with an olive skirt. I always felt fab in that outfit.

I like all versions, Bonnie. What a great set of pieces to mix or match. I like 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 the best, so I guess I'm liking the open shoes, too. I had the same thought as Joyce--I like the top best tucked as in 5, and I think if you shortened it to high-hip length it would be a great look with these wide-leg pants, with or without the topper. I do love the long top over the pants, buttoned or unbuttoned.
