I tried on these corduroys at Madewell today and brought them home. They are a 25, two or three sizes down from my usual 27 or 28. But after going back and forth with the next size up from this one, I agreed with the sales associate that these were a better fit. The thing is, I'm still not sure. I'm open to your thoughts!

Sorry I didn't take photos of the 26 I tried.

I've also ordered the straight-legs, which they didn't have in store, and I got the 26, which is what True Fit advised.

Corduroys are on my continual shopping list, as I really like to wear them in winter, and I got rid of my collection of skinnies. No more calf-sucking corduroys for me!

Oh that seems a very nice fit and what a beautiful colour.
Does it have any stretch in them? And would they shrink if you wash them?
Just some considerations.

Sizing is so inconsistent. What are you plans for them? How do they feel? Are they comfy sitting, bending and if you eat something?
Beyond your preferred length they look like they fit you well and they are a beautiful color.

The fabric is 98% cotton, 2% elastane, so they will stretch out some. The SA said to expect them to stretch a half size to one size. I won't dry them in the dryer, so I don't think they'll shrink, or probably not in circumference.

Lisa, I know, right? I wear 28 in Levis and Mother jeans. Smaller sized women would be sized out in these.

Indigoprint, that's a good question, what my plans are for them. I need to think about that. I haven't worn full length flares for a long time (and these will need hemming), so I'll have to experiment. And I adore this color, but it turns out to be a little off with some of the things I thought it would go with. So there's that consideration, too.

I have them in my store and they run big for sure. Customer went two sizes down to get good fit.

Me oh my. Love forever. These look fab on you, and wow. (I may have to get them. I’ve loved corduroy my whole life, and these are exactly the dark red plum corduroy jeans I wore to the Vice Versa (Sadie Hawkins) dance when I was a junior in high school.)

cjh, what a great photo!! Maybe that's why I am so in love with corduroys, too. I wore them in high school and college. These are a little lighter than they appear in the photos (and I even lightened my photos a little, to try to show the detail). To my eye, they are slightly darker than they look on the model photo, but lighter than the image of the pants alone. They are a dusty color (which is right up my alley).

Ok, I’ll start by saying that I’ve stopped buying madewell denim for this exactly reason. I try something and in store it seems like maybe i could wear size X but the SA tells me they stretch, so try a size Y. I’ve bought the size X and I’ve bought size Y and honestly neither actually ends up really fitting. Sorry, I guess this is a long way of saying, I’m not really sold on this fit, and counting on something stretching sounds iffy to me.

I have to say when it comes to this kind of style and fit, the feel is everything. I tried on this pair of Nili Lotan jeans and adore them. The SA recommended going down a size (to a 29 so now y’all know who the actual giant is here), but then I just felt the waistband way too much when I sat down. I can’t take that feeling anymore, so if I pull the trigger, it will be in the slightly larger size and I can have the waist taken in. I’m liking a little looser fit these days. And I have also had kkards’ experience of being dead between sizes and neither one quite works.

So that’s my long-winded way of saying they look fine but I think feel is really important too. If you get them, I’d wear them around the house for a while before cutting the tags.

They look great and the color is nice. I like a lot of Madewell items but I don't have a store near me so tend not to actually shop there, I know I could order on line but I avoid it as the sizes can be tricky for me.

The fit on these is just right on you! I'm a 30" waist but 40" hips (who's the giant now lol?) so trousers sizing is a crapshoot for me too!

Anyway, these remind me of the red corduroy jeans I thrifted earlier this year (although mine are straight leg). Will be interesting to see what you pair them with - though the floral top in your photos looks great with them too! Handmade?

These look very '70s in that fit.

That said, as Janet suggested, wear them at home for a while to decide if they feel right too. You are used to wearing VERY fluid bottoms. It's fun to see you in this silhouette! Fab to change things up when you like a new vibe

The color is really fantastic and the cut is really flattering and fun. I have two pairs of similar flare cords from The Gap and get loads of wear out of them (black and brown). Sadly the Madewell waist looks like it would be much too high for me.

Gail, I hear you. I like being able to try on things, especially pants. Even with stores nearby, I often find they don't have what I've been eyeing online. I wanted to try the straight leg cords, but the store didn't have them.

Janet, it's true. I don't like the feel of a tight waistband, either, and when a sales associate tells me to size down, I rarely agree with the recommendation. I will try these on again today.

Angie, my thought, too, was that these could be a different look and fit than my usual roomier ones. I like the 70s vibe of them. But I do need to see how they feel around home and what I might wear them with.

Roberta, that's exactly my problem with Madewell: rises that are too high. Now they are offering some lower ones, but only in a few denims. I often find colors that I love at Madewell, so it's super disappointing not to find the right fit.

Style Fan, these are right up your alley, style-wise, but I agree the color isn't quite right.

I ordered some black EF refurbished pants and they look and feel like velvet. They are new for this winter as they are full length, not cropped and have straight legs. I love the colors of yours and that they are wide-fitting not leg sucking.
