Trying out the boyfriend look - hmmmm

I wasn't planning to go in for the boyfriend look but a friend gave me a bag of hand me downs which included this pair of jeans several times bigger than my normal size. They are not so big they go over my hips buttoned up though.

I don't think this does much for me. I already have a large bottom - on this it looks enormous. And tucking in has somehow pulled that top away from my waist, so it looks like I don't have one.

Am I right to ditch this look?

These are quite cute on you, Anne! However, I feel they look a bit too much like oversized women's jeans (which they are, right?), instead of having that straight-hipped slouchy look. KWIM?

I think you are being a bit harsh on yourself. Your waist is very evident, and I do not think your rear view is enormous. But if you don't feel confident in this look, you probably won't wear them. I don't think they look all that bad. I do think of BF jeans as a summer look...are you in warm weather?

I think the essential component of the BF is the straight cut hip and the taper at the leg. These aren't quite doing that.

Una, yes you are right - oversized woman's jeans!! The rise looks high too, in addition to what you were waying

Atlantia - yes I am in Australia, so have just started summer here. In a few weeks it will be too hot to wear jeans at all. I don't think BF jeans are around much here either. Thanks for the body reassurance!

Hmm. Can you add a wider belt and wear them lower on your hips? If not, they are not quite a good BF silhouette for you.

Hmm, yeah, I agree with Una and the others that this looks more like just too-big women's jeans than a true BF style. I can't really tell at this angle but I suspect the rear pocket placement might be contributing to the off look too - on good BF jeans, the pockets are close together to give that straight hipped, masculine look.

I think this may be why the sizing up regular jeans thing only works with very slim styles like skinnies.

But I DO think you could wear a better version of BFs, Anne, and VERY successfully.

Thanks for the encouragement Suz. I'll not say "never" but I can't really make it a priority on my 12 in 12 plan - I need to think through every slot in that 12 very carefully - and I do have enough jeans to get by on.

For all of the reasons the ladies outlined above do pass these on and if bf<code>s don</code>t fit into your 12/12 plan no loss as you have fab jeans already.

The jeans look fine on you but I think adding a floral scarf will make the outfit more interesting and balanced.

Your body is fantastic Anne. I think the rise on the jeans is too high for your frame and I believe you are right to pass on the jeans to someone who will love them.

I need to clarify - when I said BF was not something I had planned to do, it was just for numerical reasons, Since I am planning on doing 12 in 12 this Jul-Jun, and have already used up several of the 12, I need to think any new purchases really carefully, or I won't have room for the many things that really need to be replaced, next australian winter (like new shoes, or turtlenecks)
