Trying jackets with dress for wedding

I had some second thoughts about the wrap I bought to go with the navy dress I’m wearing to my niece’s wedding, so I popped back into Nordstrom to bring home a couple more options (whatever I choose not to wear will be returned).

Also, I decided to try on some of my leather jackets with the dress, as was suggested in my last thread. Some work better than others, but I will reserve my thoughts until I hear what you all think.

1-2 silver wrap/scarf

3-4 black with metallic thread wrap/scarf

5-7 Black Helmut Lang leather jacket

8-10 navy Vince jacket (pulled from the holding zone) - the navies don’t match

11-13 Black Theory mixed media tweed (with a bit of sheen) and leather (pulled from the holding zone)

14-15 muted gold-ish metallic Theory jacket (purchases ages ago, I keep rescuing it from the holding zone even though the color is not easy for me)

16-17 My precious My favorite cobalt blue IRO jacket

18 my jewelry - silver toned, pretty simple - dramatic earrings, tennis bracelet gift from hubs, vintage diamond ring inherited from mom, and my wedding band set.

19 the silver clutch, with both scarf/wraps

If one of these jackets works, I’ll likely take a jacket AND a wrap so I’ll be prepared for warmer or cooler temps.

What do you think?

Oh! Ignore the safety pins — they’re marking some places where I am going to gently tack down some of the errant lace that sticks out. I’ve discovered that the sticking out becomes more problematic as I sit and stand, and I don’t want it to look weird in photos.

Janet, I like the black metallic wrap in 3/4 and the metallic jacket in 14/15 best with the dress. I think the shorter length of the jacket works better than the longer ones.

Well my favorite is the metallic theory jacket, and my second favorite is the black wrap, third favorite the silver wrap.

I like the lighter options. The wrap you choose and the gold jacket. The rest I find with not enough contrast. But you have second thoughts about the wrap?

Seconding Adriana. I like silver wrap and gold jacket the best, probably because they provide nice contrast. But it is possible that black jackets look great IRL, it is just difficult to tell from the photos.

Interesting responses. I prefer the black wrap and the black Theory jacket in 12-13. I like the gold Theory jacket as well. I prefer you in black and silver though. I love the way you have put together the dress. Gorgeous accessories.

I agree with Joy and Jussie. The black wrap gets my first vote, as long as it is warm enough. The metallic gold jacket has the best fit/proportions for the dress IMO. LOVE that dress! It is stunning on you!

I like the first wrap the best but the second is very close. I like the gold metallic jacket best of the jackets. The dark jackets look a little heavy with the open toed shoes to my eye (might be different if you were wearing boots).

The black jackets look great, and would look even better with black shoes or booties. BUT not for this wedding, I think. Agree with others that the metallics look good and are more festive and special.

I can only say you look BREATHTAKING in every single picture. That dress is so amazing on you. I like the silver wrap the most. I do not like the blue leather jacket that much.

To my eye, the silver wrap looks elegant and pulled together with the shoes. I second the votes for the gold jacket, which is so visually interesting! I actually think the blue jacket looks really cool with the dress as well, but it seems a more casual option.

I like the asymmetric black jacket best of the jackets actually, and the silver wrap. I like the gold per se, but would rather the gold be also somewhere else in the outfit for visual harmony. The shape of the first jacket adds to the drama of the dress!

The silver wrap is my first choice followed by the black wrap. The black jacket (4/5) would work well if the venue is too cold for a wrap.

I think that the black wrap is my favourite,the biker jackets look too heavy with the dress to my eye to wear to a wedding.

I like the black wrap best. I think I’d like the silver wrap better if it were even more silvery but it works. I like the gold jacket but not keen on how it works with the shoes.

Gah, you all are not making this easier!

So much preference for the gold jacket makes me wonder if I should wear my Rockstuds instead and try for a gold complement with this dress, although I don’t have as much gold. That jacket and the Rockstuds are both not gold-gold — the shoes are rosier, and the jacket more bronze-y.

I don’t have time right now to try on the dress with the Rockstuds, but here are some pics to give an idea of the colors, with my various dressy clutches...

Not sure if any of this works. Too many different shades of gold? Or does it matter? I guess if I went with gold shoes and bag, I’d take the black wrap — the metallic in it is subtle enough that it seems to blend with the gold pieces...

I like the silver wrap the best and #14 second--both look great with your shoes and accessories. how much warmth will you need at this wedding? That dress is gorgeous on you!

If you want traditional elegance, I like the black wrap. The dress is so spectacular that you don't want the wrap competing for attention, because although it's lovely, it's not "spectacular" IYKWIM. I actually really like the gold jacket! There's something "scarlet pimpernel" in the best way. The metallics look fine on the monitor, but I don't know how they are IRL. Of course the rockstuds are spectacular! So always on board although your silver sandals look very good with the dress. All the bags are great but you have so many elements calling attention, I'd make bag backstory and go with the little box clutch in the 1st photo. But looks gorgeous all the iterations. I think for cooler weather black heels/with the HL jacket looks great too!

My favs:
1. Gold complement, with gold jacket or black wrap, depending on weather. I like the bag in the lower right corner. Different shades of gold doesn’t matter.
2. Silver wrap and silver complement.

I like the silver wrap and silver accessories because I think they provide contrast and best showcase the dress. They also seem better for a wedding. I love the jackets but they don't seem like wedding attire to me with the exception maybe of the metallic one. I really think the silver wrap is stunning.

My favorite is the black wrap, followed by the gold jacket. Both are dressy and classic. I think the majority of the jackets are too casual.
